Everyday we come across police and brueaucrats who seem to be:
1. Blindly following the law. Without either interpreting it in terms of context or the sprit behind it.
2. Using the law for personal gain.

Wasn't the basic idea of all rules and regulations to simply make human life easier?
Instead we increasingly have a situation where we have become slaves to laws.

Consider this very strange law:
1. Any woman can file a complaint against her in-laws and have the arrested on a non-bailable warrant (no investigation required!). This is a law in India (and frequently used!).

Consider this very strange directive from a court:
1. Unless under extreme circumstances, a woman's complaint about rape must be treated correct.(What! Are we saying - no real investigation necessary !!!).

These are all attempts to hide a poor, inefficient and corrupt police system, by creating strange laws and directives !!

Have we lost the soul or the real reason behind creating any laws !!

As a 29 year law enforcement Officer, I agree....I tell people all the time as Officers we just enforce the Laws, we don't make them. I think people should take a hard look at the people we vote in, such as their track record on voting, the moral issues of their decisions and how they look at those issues. We all know Attorneys are usually who wind up as Politicians and when they loose that job they return to being Attorneys. The Law Makers are the ones we need to Wake Up.

First of all, we don't live in India, so that law is a good piece of trivia. . .

As for the other things, I think you should look at the other side of the coin: If the law was made, that is because someone made it necessary to do. I mean, the rape thing - because in the past, rapes were looked at in accordance to if the woman was credible (i.e. not a hooker, homeless, or police didn't want to go further because the accused was another cop or someone very wealthy/influential.).

THAT should frighten you more than the laws themselves. . .
