i had a Volvo when i was 32, great car, very comfy and sold it for what i paid for it. The modern new Volvo's are very classy and stylish.... buy the most up to date one you can afford and you wont be disappointed.

I doubt anyone will call you and old man. Volvo makes one of the best if not the very best(in my opinion) car in the world not to mention countless pieces of construction equipment, marine and aeronautical engines as well as trucks that are found all over the world. I have had one of the old square Volvo 240's and ever since the day I got it I was sold on Volvo. I have since purchased the more modern more stylish S40 and S60 and love them both. Buy a model with a turbo and certainly no one will be able to call you an old man. what ever you do don't be fooled into buying a Lexus, acura, infinity. These are falsified versions of their top end European counterparts and will never be suited for anything more than the fast and the furious. On another note go to the Volvo cars USA web site and look at the link for the Volvo saved my life club. That alone should be enough to convince you. Who knows Volvo's legendary safety may just be the reason you live long enough to be one day called an "old man".

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY good old Volvo, go for it, I have always had a Volvo from being young, I wouldn't dream of having any other car. They are a fantastic automobile, I have never had any trouble with mine, always reliable rain, snow or shine. Look after the Volvo, and it serves you well. Noisy? who said noisy? they are a quiet comfortable car, although the diesel engines could be a little rattley, but once the engine gets warmed up, they are as quiet as the petrol engined version. The girls love the Volvo's, the old 740 and 850 estates were brilliant passion wagons, put the back seats down, and you have a mobile king size bed, wooooohooooo. One thing for sure, you can't lay full length in a corsa, or any other boy racer type car. And as for power, I have often left the boy racer standing at traffic lights, as they sat there sneering and revving the hell out of their engines, oohhh the shame and loss of street cred, when a Volvo leaves you behind in a cloud of dust, just as they are showing their friends what their souped up ford, or vauxhall can do. You can be miles away while they are still wheel spinning trying to get some traction, hahahaha. Ok, enough babble from me, the moral of the story being, if you want a Volvo, go get one, Sod what anyone else thinks, and enjoy the drive of your life.

The image you are talking about is associated with older Volvo models. The latest models are no slouches, with turbocharged models rated at over 300HP. Even the older 800 series turbocharged models are pretty quick.
I drive a 1993 940 Turbo wagon. They are understated vehicles, but when you punch the accelerator they make a statement. The older model Volvo engines can be performance tuned to get substantially more hp out of them. IPD makes many engine and suspension performance enhancements for the cars.

i am 24 and own a VolvoV40 estate. not once ihave i been called an old man. the build of the car is all that matters to me and they don't make them any better than Volvo. plus it is a very good looking car.
anyone who says youare an old man for owning a volvo is just narrow minded, uness you are of course an old man then they are right.

Depends if you're that bothered by being CALLED an old man :/
And it also depends if you want a reliable car with decent MPG where you can easily get parts and service or not.
Personally, I'd rather have had a decent volvo at 17 than a gay alloyed boy-racer with under-lights (Think - "Too fast too furious" - which was crap) at 24 (age now)

Own an old Volvo that goes very fast indeed thanks very much. Of course no one likes being overtaken by a Volvo (think we're all boring do they!) so it winds them up enormously especially when they see an older woman driving....heh heh
so buy one, why not. Seriously reliable. Mine is in double figures now. Break the stereotype.

Volvo makes great cars but, not very stylish. When I think of a Volo drive it reminds me of Ruth Gator Ginssburg on the supreme court. If you want a nice luxury car look at Cadilac, BMW or Lexus. Very stylish and great quality.
