I think it means that God's contractor screwed up and measured incorrectly. He didn't follow the little known commandment- Measure twice cut once...

Jesus was talking metaphorically about the path to Heaven.

In the King James Version of the Bible, it says:

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

He was warning that the way that seems to be the choice of "the majority" is not the way. It's a caution that "might does not always make right," or not to go with the "popular flow." Many times, you'll hear, "Oh, with so many people doing that, how can it be wrong?" Jesus cautioned that the appearance of popularity lies danger, and true followers should not be tempted to go in the easy way.

In metaphorical terms, it's easy to walk through a wide gate, and follow a broad (wide) path. It allows for easy entrance, and along such a path, you can wander from side to side, and still be safely on the path.

But, again in metaphorical terms, a narrow gate is harder to enter, and a straight - and narrow - path requires constant vigilance to stay on it, and allows little wandering, or else you're "off the path."

The way to heaven is harder than "the world's way" would seem to point.

Yes, this is true. In layman's terms, the text means that the road, gate, or entrance that is broad leads to hell and destruction because many people are impressionable followers that are easily led by fads, traditions, cults, egotistical gain, greed, etc. The road, gate, or entrance that is narrow leads to salvation and everlasting life, for those who choose Jehovah. Few will choose this route for various reasons but mostly because their agenda is centered around themselves and not God. It's kinda like if someone found a wallet with thousands of $$$$ in it. Unfortunately, most would keep it and few will choose to turn it into the police. Further more, some police would access personal gain from it before the rightful owner is even contacted. Sad!

Yes it does actually say that and what it means is that the way of the truth is not an easy way and that we should exert ourselves vigorously to get in through the narrow gatethat leads to everlasting lifeso the going is not easy there are reqiurements but the broad way or the easy way as some say that all you have to do is believe, that is really the way that leads to destruction and that way we wouldn't get life, so,there are many that are doing the wrong things, which are not pleasing to God, and not many doing it the right things that God wants people to do! So, really that scripture is one that shows that many religions do not please or follow Gods direction!only a few compared to the rest of the world are doing the right things in God's eyes not necessarily the eyes of other humans.

I had it described by a country preacher this way:

The road to Hell is a wide, level, paved highway. The road to salvation is a dirt cow path through the brush.

It is a pretty good picture to think about.

Your quote means you will have an easier time finding your way to sin and Hell than Christ, and that many more will follow the path of sin than that of Christ.

Another example used in the Bible is the "camel through the eye of the needle". One thing a lot of people don't realize is that one of the gates in Jerusalem's walls was called the Eye of The Needle. It was just big enough for people to enter one at a time. A camel could be gotten through it, but to do so it had to be unloaded and pulled through crawling on its knees. A difficult task but not an impossible one.

Lead a good life following the example of Christ to get into the narrow gate which means the gate to Heaven. If you live in licentiousness, you are on the path of destruction which is the wide gate.

okay u have this verse wrong..it says Enter ye in at the strait gate:for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
It's trying to say stay on the right path, the strait path is the hard one to follow....and that many will go the path that will lead them to destruction(because that path's easier to follow)because the gate is wide and broad is the way!and there'll be many who will go that way.(the wrong way down the wrong path)notice the next verse here.
7:14 says Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
okay this is the continuation of the last verse....basically its saying the path that leads unto life is a narrow one and few will find it..cause a lot of people will lose there way and lead themselves into destruction...
Hope that helped u understand it better!!!

it means that the gate into heaven is narrow because it is so hard to get into. it is hard for people to accept god and follow his ways when there are so many evil, good looking things out there to tempt us. it is saying that you can take the easy way, do bad things, sin and you will go down the wider road, because humans are sinful by nature, and in the end, you will end up destroyed. but being good and following god's ways will not only let you have a good life, but all your hard work will pay off, and you will make it through the "narrow gate".

Good Question, requires faith to understand the answer. Without faith the answer is meaningless. Just want you to know that up front. The path to Heaven is narrow, Many people will hear it see it but will not believe it. Many will choose to believe other things than the things of God. They will claim other gods, twist the Word of God, and just deny God altogether. That is the wide path. Narrow is the path Jesus offers only a few will really truly follow it.

Without faith how could one understand, it makes no sense.

I believe it, I try my best to follow it. I fall short but I don't give up.
That is the best I can tell you. It is a choice.

It means that the passage way to salvation is small because few will choose it, the road to destruction is wide because of all the travelers on that destructive path.
