I'd rather buy it in bulk because it's so much cheaper but I hate to have it go bad before I get to use it. It's not possible to freeze it, is it?

dont freeze it, that will destroy the cells and make it go mushy.

you can get a couple extra days by removing the lettuce from any plastic wrap, wrapping it in a lightly damp (not wet) paper towel, and putting it in one of those ziplock bags for veggies that has breathing holes. keep it in the fridge.

but even with this it wont last more than 2 weeks or so.

when i buy salad mix or a head of lettuce i first brake it up by hand. Using a knife will cause it to brown(oxidize) more quickly. If i want to keep it for as much as a week I clean and then fill the sink with cold water. To the water I add about a quarter to a half a cup of lemon juice(acid). The acidic juice will help prevent oxidation. I then drain the sink and gently shake of the lettuce and put it into ziploc bags and attempt to remove most of the air. You can do this by starting to seal the ziploc but leaving about an inch open and then pressing the bag forcing out the air. Then while pressing on the bag close the rest of the lock. Hope this works for you.

Ok I work in a restaurant and I have to do make the lettuce stay nice and cool almost everyday.
Well I am guessing you are buying whole lettuce (not leaves cut off) Just find a container like a ice cream container would be good, fill it with water about half way or enough so the roots of the lettuce can sit completely covered. then rap it up with gladrap, going from underneath to over the top and leaving the sides just open enough for fresh air. then leave it in your fridge... it will last ages.

Nope, can't freeze lettuce.

Is it really cheaper to by it in bulk if you toss half of it out later? Try just buying less and eatting more salad. Sprinkling water on the leaves or wrapping it up in a damp paper towel will probably do the trick.

tomatoes might want to by no potential be contained in the refrigerator. they don't look kept in coolers on the keep for a reason. chilly destroys the flavour enzymes in them. the added air tight you keep your produce, the swifter it spoils. Thats why those bags that is offered in has holes in it. purchase a lot less and keep extra many times. The longer produce is off the plant, the less nutrients it has. by employing the time you purchase it, in some northern states, its already 3-4 days previous and also you want to keep it yet another week? you could besides devour the bag it got here in at that aspect.

Keep it in its original packaging and just take out what you need and then reseal the original packaging. Never take it out of that. They treat it with special antimicrobials, anti-fungals and crisping agents so it is imperative that you keep it in the original packaging and reseal it as best you can. This will preserve it the longest of any other method. The less you handle it the better. Hopes this helps.

first of all, don't buy in bulk. unless your having a party.
second, it all depends on what kind of lettuce you buy. store it in a air tight container. it should last about ten day's.

after you clean it put it in a air tight bowl, or take off the leafs and put them in a air tight bag, but you must get all the air out of the bag first.!
