there is usually an option to erase the memory card when you download pics from a camera. if this doesn't work find the icon of the camera on the desktop. open it and find the folder where the pics are stored. the files will be called 'file_name.jpg' or something like that. just delete them all from the disk. DO NOT delete the whole folder. otherwise the camera won't know where to store the pics next time. and be sure not to delete anything else but the .jpg files. for some reason your computer may be 'copying' the files and not wiping the memory card properly.
reformatting is a last ditch effort as it may wipe some of the software the camera needs to store info on the memory card.

Has the "write protect" switch been moved to the locked position? When looking at the card from the top (see picture in link below) there is one required notch on the right side (the side with the diagonal notched corner). On the left side there is usually a switch. This is the write-protect switch.

If the above doesn't work then for a few bucks on Ebay you can probably buy a card reader which plugs into your PC. This then allows you to slot in your card (as long as the reader is SD compatible of course) and treat it as a removable memory device, removing copying or adding photos and other data to it.

I did this ages ago when I was having trouble retrieving my photos at all. I could see them on the camera but it wouldn't download onto the PC! Now, having bought the reader, which is very small, the camera works fine! It has the added advantages of being useful for some other types of card (you can get 52-in-one readers) and will probably get used for mobile phone photos, MP3 files etc.

It could be that removing the card and reinserting it cleans the connectors. Can you view the pictures one by one and delete? My camera has a delete all function when viewing.
