Theists will always think THEIR god is the right one. They never doubt that they made the right choice because they are a bunch of egomaniacs who think that god speaks to them personally.
My proof for this is the many, many times in human history that people killed each other because they thought that their god was superior.

The answer to this must be "NO"!
I'm a theist, ok, actually I'm a Christian. The answer to "who is god anyway" is not to stick your head in the sand and pretend the question doesn't really exist. Everybody has to face this sooner or later.
Choosing "no god" is actually choosing YOURSELF as god.
Does God exist? Yes. What is He like? You must find out.
The fact that liars and fakes exist doesn't mean that the genuine article doesn't exist. Counterfeit money doesn't invalidate the existance of the US $100 bill. It just means you have to be very careful, and examine carefully whatever somebody hands you.
Peace!

You make an interesting point.
While I don't quite believe that most, or even very many, religious believers take very seriously the prospect of "ending up in someone elses hell", in a way the necessary steps to reject this possibility without admitting that moral compulsions to believe in this or that deity are in a sense arbitrary, seem forcibly to include the kind of general dismissal of the validity of the competing belief system that is the source of so much of the unfortunate religious strife in the world.

You bring up a good point. But when it comes to people believing in a God they "know" that their God is the right God. I have asked people if they lived in another country where a different set of belief was widely accepted , do they still think they would be christian. Some actually told me yes, and that God would find them. It's all blind faith. I choose no God at all.

This is the allegorical argument of the Creation story. The moon was seen as a source of light (guidance) in a dark world. It wasn't always available, but if you learned it's nature, it was better than stumbling around in the dark.
The sun-god was not seen to be so useful, as it only came out in the light of day.
Nearly every one who sees the error of the sun being created after the light of day, miss the allegory. It's OK that you follow the light you see, when it's dark. But it's better to find the source of the light.

I don't know if it is safer, but I tend to stay away from religion and just know in my heart there is someone more powerful than me somewhere up above. I think religion is going to one day be the demise of the whole planet, because of all the fighting between them. I think alot of people don't realize how cult like some religions are getting. So i say don't follow don't lead just know and keep it to yourself.

There is 1 Heaven, 1 Hell. 1 God, 1 Christ.
Pick your options carefully.

That's like never falling in love because you don't ever want to be hurt-- it's a cowardly way to live.
Besides, religion is about things greater than yourself-- your question only serves your best interests, not being wrong. That seems like a lousy reason to believe or not believe in something. It's too self-centered, contrary to religious experience.

I don't think there's such a thing as "right" or "wrong" when it comes to religion. It's all subjective. I think it's more important to live a good life and not be a "bad" person. (In other words, live and treat others like you want to be treated.)
That said, I personally don't beleive in organized religion, I just believe what I want.

you have god in your heart and soul.... you just read your bible and seek god yourself.. i do not go to church very much.. but you still read the bible and seek the lord and god is with you.. you must believe in the lord jesus christ and that he died for our sins.. and thus you try and live the right way, morally and in all ways you can...all of us have sinned and come short of the glory of god...you can have a relationship with god yourself... and then the more you read the bible the better you will see what is going on in this world that is not right in gods eyes....and also you will be able to try the spirits of people and see if they really are with god or are the devils advocates... the bible says the devil can come in sheeps clothing looking for he can devour, kill, steal from.....there is only one god.. all three, god jesus , holy spirit are all one...you pray to him and he will hear you... you do not have to even pray where anyone sees you... but i will never deny my belief in god the father...i have done many things wrong in my lifetime but i know that he lives within my heart.. all you have to do is to believe and study his word...i have had some churches that i knew was more in it for just the money... but we all have to be held accountable for our own deeds on this earth....
