Take it day-by-day. It's going to be hard to get into a routine of eating healthy. Remind yourself of why you are doing it. Been there done that - i've been good all day and when i get home it seems like i just eat all nite. Just maybe switch to healthy food in the house - that way if you do snack it's on fruits and veggies! It'll come - don't think of it as a diet either - that'll put too many restrictions on you and will set you up to fail from day one. Just modify your eating habits - maybe eat half of what you put on your plate or make better choices. Hope this helps - hang in there!

If your diet is that bad, maybe you are on the wrong one. You are not supposed to starve yourself. Are there foods you like on your diet? You should be trying to speed your metabolism with food, not starve. Foods should taste good and you should like what you eat. Tell yourself this is not working and I am going to try something totally different that will work for me and that will take off the weight effortlessly.Search the Internet for diets that speed up metabolism. Get some new and tasty recipes. Also remember that your body needs water to metabolize food. Weigh yourself.Whatever your weight, drink half your body weight of water, say(160)then drink 80 oz. of water per day. Do not drink any soft drinks or beverages with caffeine.Caffeine makes your body hold on to fluid. Smile,it's not that bad.Do all you can to learn how your body is supposed to work.Think Health instead of dreaming of being skinny.Do not eat after 7pm.Go to sleep early and get plenty of rest. Good Luck. I will list one website I found.Have a check-up at your doctors office and make sure you don't have any health problems that could be causing weight gain.Such as thyroid or hormone problems. Men do not have the worries that women have when it comes to weight gain. Our hormones are different.

Find healthy substitutes for what you crave (like if it's chocolate, try skipping the slab of chocolate cheesecake and eating two or three Hershey kisses instead - or if it's Key Lime Pie you want... try that same flavor in lowfat yogurt or sugar-free pudding.)

Allow yourself ONE cheat on Wednesdays and a little more freedom on the weekends. You're still eating healthy and the weight may come off a bit slower, but if you feel deprived all day every day with no end in sight, you're going to want to cheat every day too.

My best trick? After dinner... brush your teeth. Then find an activity that you don't normally associate with food, like reading. For some folks, because they're TV munchers, they want to eat while watching TV. If you MUST watch TV and you MUST munch, have air popped popcorn or veggies with some lowfat dip.

If you are on a diet to lose weight: I have lost 100 lbs and I can tell you a few tricks to help you sustain yourself.
First of all, do NOT skip meals all day long. You will really be too hungry to go through with it all night. Instead, eat sensible and in small portions. What I do I eat a good breakfast--polish sausage and eggs w.cheese, or bacon/or sausage and eggs. That fills me up real good and 9 times out of ten do I end up eating my second meal around 5 or 6 in the evening, where I make sure that I eat lots of salad, meat, and very little carbs(bread, rice, pasta, potatoes). I also do not snack. I might eat a banana or other fruit after breakfast, but no chips and dips, no pizza. If you can do that, then you will not be starved in the evening and steadily lose weight.

Next, when I get ready to eat, I drink a 8fl.oz. glass of water right before eating--you'll be surprised how fast you will be full. Also, I make a point to eat slow, because the feeling of being full will take about 15 minutes, so if you eat too fast you eat too much(at least most of the time)

I made it a habit to have one weekend in the months where I eat whatever I love--from pizza to sweets. This way I do not crave them all the time, and I can look forward to my next "reward".

I am in my maintaining stage since 10 years now. I lost my weight by changing my eating habits rather than resorting to a specific diet. I eat regular food, but I eat only when I am hungry, and the huge breakfast does the trick for me. Try it, and if it works for you, try not to eat after 6pm, because the metabolism does slow down in the evening. However, if you don't want a breakfast, try to fix you some sort of brunch. But try to avoid too many starchy foods, because they are the culprit(breads,pasta,rice,potatoes,chips,cookies,etc.). Keep fruit handy--they will quench the cravings for sweets and starchy food until you get used to that. Also, drink plenty of water and resort to diet pops if you have to have your pops. All this will help you to gradually but steadily lose weight. When you reached your body weight things will get tough, because then the body is refusing to lose more--I went through 6 months of that until I finally lost weight again. Once you reached your dream weight, it is crucial to maintain that for at least 6 months to establish it as a new body weight(making it easier after that to lose weight if you gain a couple of pounds). Don't go back to your old eating habits once you achieved what you wanted for that will bring you on a roller coaster. Incorporate what worked for you in your daily habits and drop what doesn't work for you. Dieting is not only about losing weight--it is about changing your eating habits!! Good Luck

Write down your diet goals.
Look at the list to see if you've achieved any.
Have healthy snacks around for those night time snacks; carrot sticks, celery sticks, popcorn, etc. If you go to bed at 10 pm, don't eat after 7 or 7:30pm.
Brush your teeth; you won't want a snack after doing that.

That the sacrifice will all be worth it in the end, when you're slimer and healthier. You should have a motivational picture on the fridge. Like what you want to look like, or feel like. So you're less likely to snack and break your diet at night.

Plan your meal in advance so you know whast you will be preparing for dinner. It is much easier to stick to your diet if you know waht you are going to do ahead of time. If you wait you may go for foods of convienice such as take out or easy to prepare maccaroni from a box or hamburger helper.
