I've got dibs on Japan. I've always been impressed by Japan's special forces and even there Regular Infantry. Missles aside a full battle, without the issue of nuclear war.

Japan - for the simple reason that Japan has the 'reach' to attack N. Korea while N Korea cannot attack Japan.

N. Korea is in a really bad strategic situation.

Many people here repeatedly point out the NoKor's superior numbers both in Infantry and Armour. But the NoKor's air power is very small (less than 500 aircraft some of which date back to the Korean War itself). Short of NoKor ballistic missiles, the air force cannot even hope to reach Japan w/out being shot down by the surface-to-air missiles and the mobile anti-aircraft cannons that the Japs surely have, and they will never survive an encounter with the Japanese Air Self Defence Force. And how will NoKor get that mass of infantry and armour across the Korea Straits. The NoKor navy has no way to do this because they do not have any good long-range amphibious assault capability. And even if they did...the combat ships they currently have cannot protect the transports from the Japanese Naval Self-Defence force's destroyers and submarines. Thus NoKor's conventional threat to Japan is negligable. On the other hand the Japanese Land Self Defence Forces, while impressive technologically and professionally, simply do not have the numbers (yet) for a successful amphibious invasion of NoKor...though the Air SDF and the Naval SDF can provide valuable support for the endeavor. A few hundred thousand more volunteers for the Land SDF however, and Japan's chances for a conventional victory over the NoKor forces will be fairly secure.

North Korea...they do have a very strong military because their leader, Kim Jong Il, has spent all of the country's money on their military. Also Japan, from their actions in World War II, has had restrictions placed on their military capabilities. But Japan has had US aid and with the US helping them Japan would win...but without that North Korea would win

I think the victor between the two would be then one defending it's home soil. The Koreans can use human waves which is something that i doubt the Japanese Infantry will try. But the Japanese are better equipped and trained for coastal combat. Island hoping and defending. So i would have to say in a battle, the country fighting on it's own home soil would win, but casualties would be massive.

N korea has a 1 million man army while Japan has only 240,000, N Korea has missiles that can reach Japan, Japan has nothing that can reach N Korea, so it would be kind of a lopsided war in N Korea's favor

I think North Korea. But it depends where the battle will take place. In the beginning, the Japanese have superior military power. So the advantage is on their side. However, as time goes by, with the large troops of North Korean armies, they are going to do whatever they can to overwhelm the Japanese military.

this time around? China, China is much stronger than she was in 1930's. China is even stronger than in the 1950 Korean war when North Korea fought USA, Canada and the Nato to a standstill. And the first troops to hit the Yalu river will trigger Chinas response

Japan would win hands down. NK can't project there army outside there borders don't have the money or tech to do it. NK really can't attack anyone there equipment is so old and out dated. NK might have a million soldiers but soldiers can't do anything with out weapons, bullets, food and clothing which something they have very little of. China wouldn't do anything for NK there are afraid to hurt trade relations with U.S.. The U.S. trade with China is what keeps China going China is changing more western the the U.S.

N.Korea ..cause they are taller and stronger than japanese and secondly they are cruel minded people ..whereas Japanese have become a bit soft after the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing and now are always a puppet of USA.
And N.Korea is like a wild bull running amidst the enemies.
