You have to give the passport office three weeks from the date of posting before getting in touch for standard applications as that is how long they estimate it will take to process and despatch. If it has been three weeks you can ring the passport office quoting your application number which was on the form you filled out (or passport number if it is a renewal application) and they will be able to advise on progress.

I would have thought that they could still help if you do not have the application number as long as you can answer their questions, name, date of birth, location of birth etc.

You can get the telephone number from yellow pages or online. There are loads of entries on www.yell.com but there is one for UK Passport and Visa Services who may be able to direct you further. Their number is 01689 834918

Give them a ring ! It's a little late but the £5.00 fee at p.o.counter check's it on the spot,so you usually get it back in 10day's or less,if you have made one error-like not using black ink or something-they will have to post it back all over again-that fee is well worth it if you are in a hurry, good luck.ktf.x

The official USA government site is...
https://passportstatus.state.gov/opss/OPSS_Status_i.asp

The official UK site
http://www.passport.gov.uk/application_tracker.asp

If you sent it in through an agency you can call them and check as well.

Good Luck!
