What does it hurt them or cost them if we choose to worship a Creator in whatever manner we choose? I mean how is it really any of their concern? I practice my faith and I raise my children. I do not tell you what to teach your children or what you can believe so why do some atheists seem bent on having a say about our beliefs?

No I do not agree with atheists but I don't go knocking on their doors to try and convert them. I believe that most of them have made up their minds and are not open to believing. If they change their minds then they know where to find people to help them. Acts speak louder than words.

For those of you who say we are deluded or wasting our lives believing : thank you for your concern but most of us are generally happy with our lives and our faith.

Because we live in nation whose laws are based on Christian principles.

Besides keeping the lawless at bay, it is a constant reminder to some that there really IS a God and they will be held accountable on that Great Day.

What bothers them(though they may not admit it) is the idea that they just might be wrong.....

Does it really bother you that much? Are you so weak in your faith that if you are questioned and or backed into a corner that you are afraid you will lose it? If thats the case then maybe you need to re-think your beliefs, and look into what you can do to strengthen them, so you will not be so easily stumbled.

I do think on the boards though, there is blame for both sides. I think religion is being crammed downed the throats of many. it could be argued that if they didn't want religion they could leave this board. But this is a public board, open to all. And it could be easily argued that the lack of religion can be considered a religion. And if this is an open board, then why can't they come here?

I don't think the "non belivers" are innocent. They too are often making fools of themselvs, and anger too easily when there own beliefs (or lack there of) are questioned.

Personally I wish we could find ways to get along. We could all probably learn alot from eachother if we would just drop our guards, and enter into friendly debates. If we give up on the idea that we will change the other, and just look at it as a way to pass the time, and possibly learn something new we would be better off. Just seeing where somebody else is comming from doesn't have to change what you believe or hold to be true. And if it does change your view, then your views were obviously not very strong to begin with, and therefore, like I said before, it could be time to re investigate just what you do and do not believe

Many atheists believe religion is harmful because it attributes unnatural causes to natural phenomena, or because they see obedience to a religious authority as a sort of brainwashing (as if you have to believe everything you're told by the religious authority if you identify yourself as religious).

Personally, I have no problem with a creator winding the universe up and then letting it go, provided that worldview allows for human wants and free will. Believing in a God that interferes with everyday life might bother me a bit... but in general... I find the hard-line atheists just as offensive as the hard-line religionists. If nothing else, I think prayer is a good way to focus one's inner strengths, much like meditation.

I disagree, I believe it is because we, as humans, do not like to face the fact that we are sinners. Being around Christians reminds atheists of something they would probably rather not think about. We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. This acknowledgment in itself will bother a lot of atheists.
Yes, many evil things have also been done under the flag of "Christianity", but is the world, especially the U.S. better off having distanced itself from Jesus Christ? Are our schools really better off, our government? Is anyone truly happy that abortions happen? It is not Christianity that is leading this country in the direction of evil it has taken.

For all those complaining about the laws, school, etc impinging on what you believe, I have but one thing to say "MAJORITY RULES".

What if I said I believe murder is right and I am upset with the laws and the way it's taught in school? I'm sure I could get a few thousand signatures.

Same thing for those atheists who don't like seeing a cross, and get the ACLU to sue everyone who believes in God.

i don't know is it because of where you live area-wise or what... but honest truth is and even my professor told me is that atheists are the ones that have been criticized. people that believe in a certain God bothers atheists asking them dumb ?'s like WHY don't you believe in God... you're going to rot in hell... etc. i find that REALLY REALLY offensive because who are you to tell me i'm going to rot in hell if i don't believe in one? i never see any atheists bother people that believes in one. i mean duh... you do know that there are more people that believes in a God over atheists right? honestly i believe that atheist is a form of a religion... just that the teachings are people derived... not God. it's just a philosophy of life just like any other religions. and if people do criticize you tell them to F off. i believe that as long as you don't bug me about your religion then i won't bug you about God. fair and square. but this is NOT reality. like some of the above posters said... religion DOES causes problems. some people are so God-derived that they try FORCING people to believe in their religion. look at the past. it's still happening now but in a different less aggressive way. this gets me really angry (not saying anything about you in particular but your question hits a spot). religion should NOT be part of any government... this would ruin the world because not everyone agrees with the same moral claims... yet there are certain morals that are believed but yet wrong

It is not your "faith in god" that is so disturbing to us. It is the fact that your faith is often used as license to deny the rights of others, to stand in the way of important medical research, and to wage war.

I realize that Jesus helps a lot of people sleep better at night, but I'm afraid that the cost of a good night's sleep is far too great.

Just for the record, I sleep very well.

Because of your religion that has been accepted by many including government, we have to think about it constantly when it come to issues such as abortion and stem cell research. Things that would better society as a whole. The religious community frowns on these things because of there beliefs. Should I frown on religion now for not letting the world progress naturally as it should?

If it bothers them so much, the only thing I can say is "the demons also belive and they tremble"
Otherwise why would you care if others made fools of themsleves. If I were to see someone doing something dumb - say if I were at a picnic and someone stripped naked- would I care? No? If a cop were to come along, I'd say they got what they deserved.
If you do the crime be prepared to do the time.

I believe in God... but;

Why would you think faith in God bothers atheists? What would prompt you to even spending a half a second on this ridiculous question?

Generalizations about any group are dangerous. Love thy neighbor.
