trout would be on the factors of a lake, the place the drop offs are. besides the fact that if that's sunny i could advise a carolina rig with a 2 to 5 foot chief, based what the fish go with, and besides the fact that if that's overcast a pair of two to 5 foot chief decrease than a bobber. on the carolina rig verify your bait floats, whilst you're employing a working laptop or computer virus basically upload a marshmallow, and whilst employing a bobber verify your bait sinks, and attempt kastmasters and little cleos retrieving them at different speeds. use a 2-4lb line for you chief. use mono, no longer flurocarbon

I do know what you are talking about but haven't any experience with them - I know they are tied inline with your spoon but I don't know how long a leader or whether to use swivels or if anything changes for downriggers. Hope you get an eastern guy who knows instead of my midwestern catfish friends here lol.
