Why isn't your dog wanted at your parents, is the dog not housebroken, does it tear things up ? There has to be a reason it isn't wanted at your parents. Now ask yourself the question, if my parents refuse to tolerate the dog, how receptive are foreigners going to be to the animal. You should only take on the responsibility of pet ownership if you also have your own living quarters. Since you already have the dog, and you are planning an extended visit overseas, I suggest that you board the dog in a kennel until you do have a place of your own. Visit the dog regularly if you really are close to the animal, and if you aren't that close, do the animal a favor and adopt him into a good home with more stable people who have time and energy to devote to the animal. You obviously have a number of issues you have to think and deal with at the present and animals are not security blankets. I am quite sure there are still quarantine laws in effect in Europe and around the world so you'd better check that out first. Information and arrangements for the shipping of animals can be obtained through the following web link: http://www.actionpetexpress.com/index.html?src=overture
Good Luck what ever you choose to do.

I think that I read somewhere that there is such a thing as a doggy passport. I think you have to get him/her checked out by a vet and tested for different diseases etc. The vet will then give you the OK to apply for a passport for him/her. Otherwise you willhave to put the dog through quarantine and I am not sure how long this takes but it did used to be 6 months. Maybe you could find out about it now then the dog could be in quaratine for the next four months and when you get to Italy you would only have to wait for two months before he/she could join you. This would also help you out with the situation at your parents place.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

You have a couple of options...one is to find a place where your dog is welcomed...maybe a friends house or another family member house. Another option is to look into putting your dog in a program..kinda like doggy daycare...some places will allow a dog to stay overnight for a short period of time. The most important thing is to remember that you did the right thing by leaving your abusive boyfriend. Congrats on that..i know it can be hard to do! Good Luck! MUAH~

You will have to check with customs in Italy to find out what you will need to do to take your dog with you, IF in fact they allow you to bring it. Some countries require pets remain in quarantine, they are boarded and you can go visit them but you can not take them out of quarantine. Next find out what the airline you will be flying on requires. Some airlines will not allow you to have a pet in the cabin of the plane with you and it will go in the cargo hold...if that is the case don't count on your dog coming out alive.
I very strongly suggest you either find a good home for the dog or take it to the animal shelter where they can find it a home. Your parents don't want the dog and that is their right...it is their home so they get to set the rules.

Find a friend to care for the dog, or board the dog. Those are pretty much your only options.
In Italy, check where you are staying...make certain the dog is welcome.
You can take the dog to Italy, but you will have to prove vaccinations and such. Call WELL in advance to your airline of choice.

You can take it to a boarding kennel until you are ready to fly back to Italy. And I really don't know what is required for an animal to fly into another country.
To fly on the plane they have to be in cages. I don't know if you provide them or the airlines do. They will probably have to have any vaccinations brought up to date and a general health check done. Go to one of the airline websites and maybe they can give the information on-line you are asking for.

be careful, because if you have a big dong, well look here. http://www.usatoday.com/travel/news/2005-04-28-flying-pets_x.htm
if it is small, all you do is put it in a doggie carrier and have to buy a second seat for it.
