You probably have answered your own question, the fact that you work in an office and see your fellow coworkers looking the way you don't want to look, says a lot, which can be accomplished by, simply put, "don't bite off more than you can chew", start by; eating smaller bites, chewing your food well, eating slowly, sitting, relaxing, and enjoying your meal, without watching TV, also each week try and work your way up to at least 30 minutes a day of exercise, alternating between high and low impact exercises and slowly including the use of hand held weights, 3lbs/5lbs, etc. in your routine. It works!.

You have to make time for exercise and watch what ou eat. In an office setting such as you describe, be wary of those who bring in doughnuts or pastries. Make sure you do not give in to the urge to partake. It may be helpful to bring a small box of some low calorie snack, such as rice cakes or something similar, to keep in your desk to take the edge of hunger whenever this is the case.

If your office is on the ground floor, talk a walk around the block if you are able at your break times. If it is on an upper floor, use the stairs as opposed to elevator. In addition, if you have a message for someone, don't use voice mail or email all the time, but get up and walk to their desk or office and either speak to them in person, or leave a written note.

These actions, in addition to any fitness regime you follow yourself, will help combat the natural tendency to gain weight in such and environment.

Exercise and healthy eating is the key. Now remember, the rule says if energy taken in is less than energy used, weight is lost. You are planning on exercising, which is absolutely brilliant! You will tone. However, don't count your calories, instead, make sure you are not overeating and that you eat healthy foods instead of fatty foods. Substitute healthy foods for fatty foods. Have weetabix, semi skimmed milk and throw in some fruit for breakfast, instead of toast and butter. Have an apple instead of a bag of potato chips for a snack. Boil your food rather than fry them, mix in vegetables! in fact, always start off your meal with vegetables. This will slightly fill you up, so you dont go on to eat other foods that contain more energy. All of this will add up, and before you know it, voila! You have lost weight and you have a lovely toned body! Good luck!

The best solution is to get enough exercise and eat a healthy diet. This is easier said than done I'm afraid.

A FEW THINGS TO REMEMBER:
The correct way to burn fat and stay healthy is to burn more calories than you consume
You need to make sure you are eating healthy foods while still excercising
If you have a big appetite drink plenty of water so that you will feel full but not consume calories
But you should always eat
If you start to skip meals you will only be more hungry at your next meal and probably eat way too much
Remember, the average persons stomach is as big as a slice of pizza scrunched up into a ball
So you shouldnt be putting more food into your stomach than what fits
Also, it takes aproximately 15-20 minutes for your brain to realize that you are full
so eat slower and you will realize sooner when you are not hungry anymore

Regular exercise and a balanced diet (I recommend vegetarianism--for life--but I know it's not for everyone)... or just a combination of coffee and cigarettes!
