Because some athiests do know what they are talking about. I am agnostic, not quite athiest, but i have studied many religions and have not found complete truth in any of them. People who follow only one belief understand so little of anoter belief that they cannot grasp the concepts of the beliefs that they discredit aswell. Religion is the root of all global unrest because it sets man against man and brother against brother because of a simple lack of understanding and respect for one another. I have seen christians do it, muslims, jews, athiests, etc. Religion drives people of different views away from eachother. No religion has been proven to be the all powerful truth, so no religion has the right to discredit another. How do you know god is not my desk lamp?

Intolerance is the great cancer of society. It is common to the condition of man to be wrong. Every religious zealot is quite assured that they have the truth while the rest of the world is wrong. Atheism is just as prone to the production of zealots as any other religion.
There are no two people in this world who will agree on absolutely everything and I have no basis to assume that when I disagree with you, that you are wrong, regardless the assurance I have that many people agree with me.
Being wrong is human. Being arrogant and intolerant is not godly or smart, it is evil and stupid.

Anyway, a lot of atheists know more about religion that the religious people. You often have to study religion before you can reach a non-theistic view.

They like to debate and try to prove things practically and scientifically. They have an ongoing battle in their minds and hearts. They are strangely attracted to light and salt but keep up that mental block that keep out the truth and flavor. Put on some undies, Sir.

In order for someone to fight against, hate or otherwise challenge an idea, they have to admit that the idea, concept, thing etc. exist. How can an atheist dent God w/o first anknowledging that there is a God to deny/hate/etc. How can you hate someone if they don't exist? or deny what is not there? In my experience, most people who do not understand something try to explain it anyway or dismiss it as unimportant to them.

I think what makes you uncomfortable is the fact that we *do* understand what we are knocking, and that's why we knock it.
