Sounds like Canker sores, which is caused from too much acidic food. I know many people who get it from too many tomatoes. Try a salt water rinse and gargle.

If it's inside the mouth, then it's "ulcers" or "canker sores" as it is commonly referred to. If it's on the "outside", then it's herpes or "cold sore" as that is commonly referred to.
Either way, get checked out by your physician and he/she will give you advice as how to treat 'em. Ulcers can be very painful, but if you rinse your mouth with Maalox, it takes away the pain for a bit ... also rinse with listerine to promote drying effect .. this will get rid of ulcers faster.
