to believe this i would need to believe that there were no rainbows before the great flood.
that is: i would need to believe that after the great flood the laws of optics changed.
i don't think god would be so dishonest as to alter the fundamental laws of physics.
so no, i don't believe this.

Man of course recognizes the science behind the rainbow and the Genesis account does not dispute that. It simply says that the rainbow is a reminder to humans that never again will God destroy life by means of overwhelming waters. Some people might feel that this was the simple explanation of a primitive people who had no understanding of such things as light refraction. That this simple statement regarding the rainbow cannot be attributed to lack of knowledge can be illustrated by the following: The Papyrus Ebers, a medical document of the ancient Egyptians, prescribed the use of excrement to treat various conditions. For instance, you were supposed to mix human excrement with fresh milk and apply it like a poultice. Clearly we know that such treatment can lead to serious infections.
Now compare that with what Moses recorded in the Bible book of Deuteronomy as respects excrement. We read at Deuteronomy 23:13: “When you squat outside, you must also dig a hole with [a digging instrument] and turn and cover your excrement.” The direction is for the safe disposal of sewage, not the use of it as medicine.
So Moses, who told us about the symbolic meaning of the rainbow, also gave us clear direction when it came to handling sewage, unlike the Egyptians. His knowledge, in both instances, came from a divine source. And the reference to the rainbow is not an explanation of its cause but rather an explanation of its symbolic meaning.

Sure...
and two of every kind of mammal, bird, insect, and reptile fit into a boat the size of a small cruise ship... built by a bronze age man who probably had no idea how to read and write. Sure, I believe it. Oh, yeah... and only ONE family was good on the entire planet. sure, I believe it.
Of course water droplets didn't refract light prior to the flood.
What does it mean when I use my garden hose to make a rainbow?

After the flood God created a rainbow as a covenant between God and man promising not to flood the land again. In Genesis 8:21".....never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done. As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease"

So, most of you seem to think that the bible was interpreted literally & accurately, AND that what WAS written was not subject to embellishment or primitive interpretation...
I think science has proven YEARS ago what a rainbow is. The bible is a good guide line for living a good life, but it's also full of things political powers added in the past to help keep people subserviant. Many books have also been eliminated from the bible for the same reason.

Yes, i believe that He sent the rainbow as a reminder.
But also yes God used light to reflect water, just another reason why He is called the creator. He has such beautiful ideas.

If rainbows are a sign that God would never flood the world again, then how do we explain Tsumani ? The rainbow thing is just myth. Tsumani proved it.

Yes, God gave a promise.
If you read Genesis, there are things that are different now than before the flood (breaking of the firmament), so that is why we have rainbows now and not before.

Yes, but the homosexual community have borrowed it too so it is also now a sign of why God SHOULD flood the world again.
