And God said "Start by kissing Eve".

So many people have answered this question, so i'll address my answer to all of them at once. The answer is most definatley no. Adam and Eve were created for each other as two seperate beings. Eve was created from Adams rib. If it was incest then Adam would have been guilty of having sex with himself. The truth is that the idea of something being taboo in the relationships between family members only came about because of the taint in the bllod which was caused by the fall of man. In Adams, Noahs, and the other early patriarch times, the blood was purer, so no mutations could result from the coupling. Therefore it was not a sin for them to have such relations together. As for Cain, Able and Seth, they married their sisters. Most people don't think there were other children for Adam and Eve, but they had more then three. However, you'll often find that the Bible only refers to those that are relevant at any given time otherwise it would be too big a book and there would not be enough room to contain the information in it. Scientists today have recognised the taint in the blood which causes ageing and death. They cannot correct it but they know it is there. This 'sin in the blood' as it is sometimes known is the cause of the shorter lifespans man has today. Back in the early patriarch times they lived hundreds of years. Noah was five hundred when he began building the ark and it took him 120 years to build! But no, it was not incest. Not then. Now however, there is a very big chance of there resulting in a mutation and deformity of a child from relations of near family, which is why it is considered taboo for brother and sister, mother and son, father and daughter, etc to have such relations. Even near cousins can have problems there. Society now frowns at such things. We have become convinced that it is a sin. But until the law of Moses, such things were not considered sinful. As for Noah's children. They took their wives and families on the ark with them. They were adults over thirty not children under age. Once we understand the truth of such things and the reasons why certain laws and rules were made by God, all the rest becomes clear. As for one of the answers here. That of Ringo 711, let me just say that the original scriptures of the bible were not given by men. They were from God who revealed them to Holy men of God who in turn wrote them. The bible is not a story book, but a book of truth. And for the Muslims out there, a big hi. Let me just say that the quran (sorry not spelled correctly) is the same bible as the bible. It was just reworked by the prohpet. It is the same truth of god but for a different people. We all worship one God. Let's not quarrel over the details of the books we read.

Well they lived for somewhere around 900 years ya? Well usually women stop re-producing at 45 - well eve my great x,1000 grandma would have definitely had a gala time having sex with plenty of people so would have my Great x 1,00 grandpa Adam. Adam had 900 + children it is said ya? Obviously eve cant produce that much - 1 a year. Well accordingly we are all brothers and sisters and aren't we engaged in incest sex?

Understand that Adam and Eve were made perfect. And when I say perfect I mean down to their very genes. The reason incest is so taboo now is because of the diseases and retardation that can result because of the flaws in related genes. But if two people have flawless genes, they can be related and have as many children as possible and not a one of them will have a mental or physical defect. These perfect genes explains also why people in the bible early on were able to live long long healthy lives.

And by the say, Eve had more than just those first two children but because Seth and Cain's story was very critical to understanding the world today, theirs was specified. But as men became more sinful and their diet became more flawed, defects in their genes started to occur and we started to get things like diseases and short lives.

Many people immediately reject the conclusion that Adam and Eve's sons and daughters married each other by appealing to the law against brother -sister intermarriage. Some say that you can't marry your relation. Actually, fi you don't marry your relation, you don't marry a human! A wife is related to her husband before they are married because ALL people are descendants of Adam and Eve - all are of one blood. This law forbidding close relatives marrying was not given until the time of Moses (Leviticus 18-20). Provided marriage was one man for one woman for life (based on Genesis 1 & 2, there was no disobedience to God's law orginally (before the time of Moses) when close relatives (even brothers and sisters) married each other.

Remember that Abraham was married to his half-sister (Genesis 20 v 12). God's law forbades such marriages, but that was some four hundred years later at the time of Moses.

People must stop thinking of Adam and Eve as the start of life on this planet, life began (to keep it simple) in a pond. Adam and Eve may have existed many years later and someone gave them a name, but they were among thousands of people by this time, and I expect many of those times did commit incest.
Going on some of the answers given to this question, there are to many people living in a dream world that was written in books by man, because man knew no better. Forget the bible, again written by man, look at facts.
I'm not saying that God did not create us, because i believe he did but man kind has been using Gods name to con us, and make vast amounts of money in his name, and lets not forget how many people have been killed in his name.

If you believe in the Eden theory of human genesis, then yeah, it seems unavoidable that we're all the product of early incest between the members of a terrifyingly small gene pool - brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, and so on. Not that I believe a word of it, but it would certainly help explain why human beings are so messed up.
