There are over the counter sleeping pills. There are health food sleeping supplements such as Melatonin and Valerian. There are prescription sleeping pills such as those advertised on television that can be bought over the Internet or with a prescription by visiting a doctor.
The Internet sites are costly. People who have run the sites have been arrested. The sites often have you fill out a brief medical form, but it seems they are really looking to make money and the form is their attempt to be legal.
Sounds like a good idea to have a physical and if necessary visit a sleep clinic. If there is no way you can afford that, the over-the-counters are reasonably priced. I would suggest you read up on each product before you buy.
Also as someone pointed out above, sleeping problems can be due to a wide variety of other problems. It is probably a good idea to make sure that you have no other emotional or physical problems resulting in a sleep disorder. As an example, I thought I was tired and lethargic which seemed like depression but it was anemia.

Melatonin is naturally found in the body and has a profound impact on sleep and sleep patterns. Many natural and/or herbal supplement companies distribute melatonin tablets. It usually comes in a 3mcg tablet, to be taken immediately before bed. Its an alternative to using Tylenol PM and other medications. Also, benadryl usually works very well to help with sleep and is fairly non habit forming.

You can get over the counter pills without a prescription. I would suggest Tylenol PM. It works & it's non-addictive. My doctor recommended it.

always see a doctor as it could be a result of something more serious than just not been able to sleep.
