Ok, so I had been using my mother's shampoo.
John Freida's, Beautiful Brunette.
What it did was turn my hair a lighter shade, from dark brown to almost dirty blonde.
I liked my hair dark brown, so I went and bought dark brown hair dye.
When I finish, my hair is BLACK!
Black.. :'(
So, is there any way to fix this?
I have not tried dying it again, as dark to light is hard to pull.
But please, hair gurus, save me from this emo look.

You didn't read the directions. did you? Your always supposed to do a strand test.
Some peoples hair is much more porous than others- it sucks up the die.
Options-
1.You can go get hair bleach. GO TO A beauty supply shop. Not all hair bleach was created equal. You will want to start with the gentle stuff. Try a really low developer -like 20. You will want to apply it and stand in front of the mirror. It may change very quickly- it may not change at all. If it doesn't yu will have to get a higher number developer. Thr stronger the stuff- the more damage it will do to your hair.
Risk- you will screw it up even more. Bleach tends to take you through shades of orangey/red not brown.
2. Hair salon- by far the better choice. It will cost you an arm and a leg, plus your first born, but they will do a good job. They deal with this all the time.
3. Suck it up- Black is cool, man. And, any dyer will tell you- permanent hair dye is far from permanent. It will fade. It will probably be a believable shade in a week- eh, maybe two. If you give it a day you'll get used to it.
Good Luck.

The best thing to do is go to a salon and get it restored to it's original color. Tell them exactly what you used on it because the shampoo obviously has dye in it too and they'll be familiar with what brands contain what ingredients.
Don't try to restore it at home or you may cause real damage.
Other than that, you'd have to wait for it to grow out. It won't just "turn back" to it's former color any other way.

I've accidentally dyed my hair black, orange, gray, you name it.. give it a couple weeks sometimes a lot of the dye will wash out in the shower and it won't look so horrible anymore.. if you decide to redye your hair DO NOT use any hair dye that has "ash" in the color description.. this can turn your roots green.. my advice is wait it out about 2 weeks and if you still don't like it go to a professional and have them fix it.

I don't hair dyes or bleaches myself, but I DO have a recommendation for hair COLORING that is 100% organic and does a wonderful job.
I use HENNA. Okay...it IS a bit "gritty" and it smell a little like "spinach" when you apply it. But it keeps your hair HEALTHY because it doesn't chemically strip your hair. Henna ISN'T a dye or bleach, it is a natural COLORANT.
You can control the color by your choice of hennas and the amount of time you leave it in your hair. I buy my henna in bulk from a local source (it's less expensive that way) and it comes in many different colors (even NEUTRAL [no color]).
Henna makes your hair STRONGER and HEALTHIER, not weaker from chemical treatments. You can apply and reapply as often as you wish with no chemical burn out. (And YES...They have many kinds of BROWN available too!)
TIP: I always add my favorite conditioner and/or Olive Oil to my Henna mix for better results.

Shampoo it right away. I dyed my hair red once, but it turned out purple. I then got a box of blondest blonde and dyed it over again. It removed a lot of the color and made my hair strawberry blonde wihich I liked very much. You could try that.

With a few washes your hair will return to its natural colour.
If hair dye stayed for ever, the company would go out of business.

I agree with "The Ultimate"'s answer.
Use that shampoo everyday until you lighten it up.
Don't strip your hair or fudge with it now, it is somewhat
damaged. Just let it change on its own.
Also, try to use a shampoo/conditioner that has coconut oils
to keep your hair from being damaged further.
