I was told by my dentist they have to come out... I think it's a greed issue. As far as I know they've been there a long time and they haven't effected my straight teeth. He even commented how "nice" my teeth are, btu I don't know if they say that to everyone. In fact when I was little I had a gap and that gap was long gone before high school. I see it as my extra teeth, for when I get old. I asked, if I want to keep them, how do I make sure I brush them properly? He said "you can't, they have to come out" HUH! He actually said he can't see that far back! Isn't that his job? He's go the mirror do hickys, lighting and x rays why won't he be able too? That visit cost me 300$ and he didn't even do anything! Grrr. Is this normal? Do I HAVE to get my wisdom teeth taken out if they seem to have made their own space back there? When do wisedom teeth grow in?

ACK I don't want four teeth removed they seem to have their own set space, I think they are still partially covered on the bottom the tops are fully done, i think.... they don't hurt. Seem s like th bottom ones try to "come up"? every once in a while than stop. do the they move or do the gums just recceed?

I only had wisdom teeth on the top of my mouth. They did not grow in until I was 25. They grew in straight and did not bother me at all. When I was younger I had braces on and as a result I have really straight teeth. A couple of months ago I noticed my teeth moving forward a little and thought that was wierd. The dentist said that my wisdom teeth being in is a result of that. She said that even though they are not bothering me as of yet, in time they will. Oh and if you are prone to cavities...getting one in your wisdom teeth really hurts according to her. I chose to have them taken out. The procedure took 15-20 minutes tops. They came out nice and smooth and the recovery time was prob half a day with very little pain. My dentist said the bottom wisdom teeth hurt way more. Good luck!

My dentist told me that wisdom teeth grow in depending on age and space, I myself am 21 and my wisdom teeth haven't grown in yet. If your wisdom teeth have already grown in and they are not affecting your teeth or crowding them... I don't see why they would need to be pulled.
But I'm not a dentist, and really the only thing I can really suggest is if you think your dentist is ripping you off then go see another dentist permenantly, or at least just for a second opinion.

Nope not everyone needs to, and your age if they are not a problem to you, and the dentist doesn't see any reason to then def not. My wisdom teeth didn't come out until I was past my teenage years, pretty sure 20's and I never once had a problem until they finally completely came out and were growing sideways, and the other two were impacted causing major pain.. but other than the pain i wouldn't have done anything.. It is true though if you have had braces or anything they can mess that up once they come out but the dentist would prob catch that soon enough to remove them too.. so long story short.. NOPE :)

My wisdom teeth started to come out, well not out but had formed and started to move when I was almost 17 years old. All 4 of them at the same time, I was in horrible pain... went to the dentist... after some x-rays, he told me that all 4 of my wisdom teeth had formed under my gums and congratulations BUT that they were growing sideways instead of up and out of my gums.... SO, I had to have them removed. He did it right in his office, although he did put me to sleep because he had to cut my gums to get them out. It only took him 30 to 40 minutes from me counting to like 5 and then me waking up. I had stitches in my gums but I was fine. I didn't even have to use many of the pain killers he had prescribed for me. Just go to a good oral surgeon, have him or her check your wisdom teeth and see if they really do need to be removed. If so then let that oral surgeon remove them, that is one of their specialties. You said that they move then stop, that may be the problem that your dentist was talking about. Although you may have enough room in your mouth as far as width space, your bite may be to small for them to grow in all of the way, which would cause problems in the long run. My opinion is, Go get a second opinion from an oral surgeon and then follow what that one says. Also you do have a right for an explanation of their medical recommendations.

Yeah i had my wisdom( all four sides) removed last yr, when i was 21. The problem wit mine was there was no enough space for the upper 2 and the lower 2 was much more complicated, it was almost horizontal pushing the previous tooth, i was recommended to remove them b4 they create a problem with the previous ones. These usually starts growing between 19 and 23. Its always better to get done with ur teeth b4 the pain starts.

wisdom teeth is normal. It usually comes out about 18 yrs old. But sometimes earlier. I had mine when I was 16. You can know that your wisdom tooth is coming out because of the excruciating pain. I once went to the dentist to check if i have a decay because of the pain, but the dentist told me that the pain was caused because of the wisdom tooth. I once also had an impacted tooth, means my wisdom tooth has no more place in the gums to grow. The tooth will not grow straight. The solution was operation. Simple operation. I had my Wtooth removed. No pain. If you cant take the pain because of the tooth, I heard that theres an operation to help your wisdom tooth come out.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled when i was 18. It is actually better to have them pulled because the wisdom teeth are harder to clean since they are all the way in the back. You said that the bottom teeth were not out all the way, that means that food can get under the gums and cause infections, they will get irritated. Also if you leave them in and later want to get them pulled when you are older it is alot harder to get them out because the teeth will become brittle.

maybe your wisdom tooth is impacted that's why he is recommending for it to be removed. Because if not it will cause infection and damaged the rest of your teeth. It will be a minor surgery/ operation not just like a simple tooth extraction.

I never had wisdom teeth to begin with. You don't achieve wisdom until much later in life, if ever. I had my learn from your mistakes tooth pulled, along with you keep making the same mistakes over and over you stupid idiot tooth. I also had braces to straighten the rest of my teeth.

if your wisdom teeth are not hurting you or causing any problems then leave them in. some mouths are bigger and can hold them and some are smaller and can not. the teeth start to grow in at age 16-25
