When my daughter was first diagnosed with ADHD it was still very controversial. Many Drs at teh time still didn't believe it was real. that was 15 yrs ago. There are still some around today who don't believe it, but most Dr's now accept is as a real mental disorder.

Ialso have ADHD. I was only diagnosed last June after seeing TV commercials about how your mind keeps wandering and you can't seem to concentrate. The medicine has worked wonders for it.

My son who is now 3 1/2 was diagnosed with ADHD after 2 years of hyperactivity, misbehavior and sleeplessness. I suggested it to my doctor who kept telling me it was his food and sugar intake. I do not treat my son with Ritalin ( Ritalin, so much easier than parenting) but rather with alternative methods that have been working very well. Behavior modification, eliminating certain foods and keeping a tight schedule have worked wonders for my ADHD son.
