Like you said, the definition of God varies - sometimes from culture to culture, sometimes from country to country and, more importantly, from person to person. I believe there aren't two people that share exactly the same view about God, because no one really knows what he/she/it is/was.
This raises problems for both theists and atheists. Theists have different forms of regarding God, but they (should) know that, if a God exists or existed, there's practically no way in which all those manifestations could have been true at the same time. The insteresting thing is, even the most obsessed of theists can't define the concept of God properly, or at least make it coincide with their neighbour's definition, for no one truly knows what/who God is/was.
Atheists, on the other hand, have a fairly difficult job at hand - they deny the existence of God. But how to deny the existence of something we're not even sure what it is? That's the problem. A person can say, for example, that there is no benevolent white haired man watching over us from heaven, but they aren't denying the existence of God, only of a vision of it most likely made by humans. But if we considered God to be the beggining of everything, an "event", if you will, almost everyone would accept it as true, right? Because everyone agrees there has to have been a beggining...
To add more confusion to this whole thing, I'm a theist, in the sense that I believe that God was the beggining of all, even if (s)he/it does not exist now/ceased to exist instantly. You see now why God almost has to be worshipped in my view - not because we'll end up in Hell if we don't, but out of respect for what was created. That was what people like Einstein called "cosmic religion" - look at the wonders of nature: should the one who created it or the event that led to it be celebrated?
I'll also say I'm a Christian, because I do believe in Christ's preachings - it doesn't matter if he was the son of God or not, because he was a great man and a great philosopher, one that tried to make the world a better place and died because of it.
Hopefully, this left you thinking...

This is a pity that most of the religions present God as a ruthless king who expects us to follow rules
Interestingly, the rules and morals which religions have fixed for God are man-made, people try to impose their own morals and rules on God and expect him to follow them....what a childish and idiotic philosophy.
I think best definition of god is found in Tantra philosophy, where god is no where a stern king...not even a person. Tantra believes Self-conscious Energy condenses as matter and this energy at different levels follows her scientific rules in physical world and her psychological rules in the psychic world

They're lost, there are too many versions and differences between religions for me to believe in it.If there was one god, would there not be one universal story? Why would such a supreme being create such an imperfect world if he has total control? Why does he choose not to expose himself to us?What are HIS origins?

The one thing that all theists have in common is that all of them are guessing, speculating and basing their ideas on what God is on other people's ideas. It's a litany of interpretations and analyses running down the millenia. It's like the 'telephone' game - I wisper in your ear what God is like, you whisper it in someone else's ears, and down the centuries people are bound to have different ideas.
The fact that there is no empirical way to confirm his existence (note: he doesn't) means that each of these slightly-different interpretations is equally valid.
Leave them to it. If they want to change the shape of their god to fit their circumstances, let them. It's all wishful thinking anyway.

If any such being actually existed, humans would be following one (religious) doctrine and it would have been global from the foundation of civilization.
The fact that there isn't any such doctrine is conclusive proof no such entity exists, or ever existed.
Theists are delusional.

"Why pray and ask for issues, once you've the free will to reason those issues to take position, or to fail to take position?" free will is in basic terms determination, not skill. free will does not translate into the flexibility to reason something to take position or not. I do believe that God enables us to harvest the benefits and go throughout the outcomes. i believe that we are surrounded in those who do not hit upon their God-given skills, skill and plan and run afoul of it. that's as a lot as US to discover those issues out and fulfill them. it is a lifetime procedure and not in any respect something a lot less. God bless.

The smartest thing anyone ever said to me was this: "I don't know anything...but I've got a LOT of great ideas."
I'd suggest taking a class in Epistimology and Metaphysics to answer this; The nature of truth itself. The emperical versus the 'felt', and whatnot.

God is a spirit and body combined like all of us. His is more refined and pure. He is testing us to see if we will obey and love him enough to obey his commandments. If we do he will bring us back into his presence. If not then we don't deserve to be with him. If you obey him without seeing him and him verbally talking to you then you are doing it because you believe in him, not because you feel that he is making you to do it. It's a test to see if you will do as he commands from the goodness of your heart not just because he tells you to.
