Thats a good thought!! Actually when i read your question, i realised that it is true!!! Just a few days ago i got a mail with a picture of a baby who had a half burnt face....... Earlier i wud have just delete it and forgot about it.... But now, that i have a 2 month old baby..... that pic has stayed in my head, and i feel horrible thinking about it!!!! I was kinda sensitive towards such things earlier too, but now, as u said, i feel such things in my heart!

Absolutely. My husband and i view things much differently now. If there were tragic stories
our reactions changed from..."how sad" to "what if that was our children?"
We realized how fragile life is when we had children. I guess because we no longer just focussed on ourselves.
And like one previous answer mentioned, we see a lot of people differently: like homeless people. The were probably loved and cherished once with dreams and hopes too.
I think having children has helped me see the connectedness that exists between all people irregardless of culture, age or economic situations.
On the flip side, we also feel joy and delight in hearing happy stories or by simply watching our children or seeing kids in general. It's not just sad feelings that are magnified.

i was talking to my husband the other day about the same thing. i feel the same. for example, there is a song called 'almost home' by a country artist. it's about a man coming across a homeless man on the street sleeping and the guy wakes him up and offers to take him to a shelter. the homeless man says, basicly, that he was having a dream about his child hood, he was almost home. and i had never thought about it before, but homeless people use to be kids with families and such. i cry everytime i hear it. i find that i can't even bring myself to watch tv shows that are about babies dying. there was an episode of house about a disease in the maternity ward. i saw the preview and knew there was no way i could watch it without my heart breaking to pieces.

Oh yes, for sure, becoming a parent, a mother especially affects emotionally, mentally and physically. To take care of them, right from the time they are born, till they start walking, speaking, understanding things, then fulfilling their demands, to be after them, make them eat food, studies, to make them understand many many things under the sky, to answer their questions, all of this really costs on the mind and body.
But whatever it may be, their sweet smile, the innocent look in their eyes, their being completely dependant (say for food, to go to toilet, to make them sleep, to dress them up etc) on us, the invisible soul stirring bonding btwn the child and parents is inexplicable.

yes, for example I used to be a sound sleeper, now I wake up when he rolls over! I also used to sleep through bad weather, but now I find it is impossible. I also feel the same about hearing news reports of parents neglecting kids, killing babies. I feel it in my heart now to.

HA! This happens to me all the time.... my view of EVERYTHING is changed now that I have children.
After watching The Good Son, I went and curled up with my son in bed and cried myself to sleep. When my kids got older, I told them that story, so they wanted to watch the movie to see what was so bad.... of course they think I am crazy for crying myself to sleep, but I couldn't help it....
