I don't think Athiests on Yahoo! Answers forgive any religion but I guess they question Christianity more than other religions is because they have come from that culture and have followed those teachings at some point in their lifetime.
About turning the other cheek theory, I have yet to meet a true Christian who will let me come over to his house every morning and let me slap him a really hard one.

It has nothing to do with ignorance or cowardice. As an atheist, I do not believe there is a supreme being to whom we must bow down to, or bend on our knee. All the religions of the world have one thing in common. They demand that total freedom of all humans be limited to the crap written or read, for the illiterate, from their "holy" books or legends. It is always about controlling the individual and creating power over them by the cleric of each organized religion. They are all based on the hope that there is a life better than the one you are presently living, but you have to believe what the cleric believe and live as they tell you, or you will not achieve this elevated life. The only catch is that there is absolutely no proof that any portion of you will survive past the very moment you die. If you believe there is a soul , or spirit that will live on, the cleric are the best salesmen on earth. Atheists are free to think without all this crap cluttering their minds, and there is not one second of guilt, just peace.

This is my personal view. I believe that most Atheists often attack (in a debate) Christianity instead of Islam is because most Atheists are familiar more with Christian teachings as compare to Islamic teaching.
Not just Atheists but most non-muslims do not fully undertsand the Islamic teaching. I found some who think that the Muslims are worshipping a "moon god" (which is not true). Some even think Islam is a race, that is all Muslims are Arabs and all Arabs are Muslims. They didn't realise that majority of Muslims are not Arabs.
Not many know that there is a Chapter in the Quran named after Jesus' mother i.e. the chapter Mary.
Not many know that Muslims do believe in the Bible (even the Torah) but Muslims now believe that the original Bible has been lost through history.
If any Atheists or any non-muslims want to know about Islam, I surely believe that there are many Muslims that are willing to explain the true teaching of Islam. But normally most knowledgable Muslims will not try to debate. They will only try to clarify.
God teaches Muslims in chapter Al Kafirun of the Quran that there is no force in choosing religion. Muslim with their religion and others with their own ideologies or belief system.

Possibly because Christians:
a) have such little understanding of their own texts and history.
b) attempt to use false "logic", pseudoscience and contradictory arguments to "prove" their point of view--sometimes to the point of deliberate lying and slander.
c) interpret any questions, objections or comments about their faith to be an "attack" (for some Xians just to declare your atheism is an "attack" on Christianity).
d) Have a tendency to be openly rude, condescending, intolerant and judgemental to all who do not share their views--while demanding that others show appropriate respect and tolerance for theirs.
e) feed their persecution complex by ignoring or minimizing any atheist comments directed at other, non-christian belief systems ("they only pick on us")
f) automatically assume anyone disagreeing with their viewpoint is an "athiest" who is "attacking" them because of their beliefs (thus a Buddhist pointing out to a fundamentalist Christian--quite rightly--that Jesus was not the onlyof his time and place considered to be a Messiah becomes "an Athiest attacking Christianity").
g) take if for granted that if you are of European descent, you must be a Christian, and behave extremely uptight when they find out you aren't.
Another factor is that an Athiest who has grown up in the Western world has probably been surrounded by Christian ideology all his life--that is the ideology he knows best. It's also the one that he has likely questioned the most during his life. And finally, it's the one that exerts the most pressure for him to "conform" or labels him as a heretic, sinner or apostate(as opposed to merely being an unbeliever).
Like any emotionally charged argument, there are varying degrees of ignorant behaviour on BOTH sides. Christians supporting ignorant Christian because they are co-religionists are making Christianity look bad. Athiests who support ignorant Athiests for the same reasons are just as bad. If that habit can be broken, then the discourse will improve.

I've lived with Christians and Muslims in my community my whole life, but I'd have to admit that the people that annoy me the most are the Christians - because of their evangelism. Most don't even want to admit that they are hypocrites themselves (and I've had a 17 year old recently tell me that she doesn't tell lies - ever - not even white lies) and those that do, have to be caught before they would. They just can't seem to be like their Christ and live by example.
The Muslims that I've grown up with were a lot more unimposing. They never asked people to believe in their religion and they never attacked another's religion (in public anyway). They believed simply because they believed in their God and this was something that was lacking in the Christians. No one taught them to live by example, but yet they do and people wonder how they continue to recruit other racial believers during this time of inner turmoil for Muslims (between their extremist and moderate factions).

People that dont believe are people that dont have any knowledge of what not to believe about. Etheists out there are just ignorant people who dont have first hand knowledge of any religion, and pic on the ones that are much more known. Etheist are also afraid of religions who dont turn the other cheek like you say, because they know that if they open their mouth it would be the last time. AS A POINT TO MAKE i say someone talking about preaching the religion, get your education right, PROTESTANTS preach their religion onto others, and use religion as a means of getting their political agendas across. Chatholics in the other hand if you don't want to be part of the religion you are on your own, religion will not be pushed on to you, is up to you to believe and to have something to value with your family, as a matter of fact there are certain things you have to take part on to be a Catholic. Protestants in the other hand even allow crooks to be preachers(Jimi shawger example), because they use religion as a means to get funds, and support for their agendas. Protestants where the first to opress gey people and now they praise them allowing them to marry as well. Why do you think that is? Is because there is a high population of gey people who vote and have money and thats what LUTHERANS A.K.A PROTESTANS want.

Atheists say a lot of things against Islam. In Islamic countries people don't have the freedom to criticize Islam. Most of the Atheists are from Christian majority country and the know a lot about Christianity so they criticize it. There are MANY atheists around the world who have said a LOT against Islam. Salman Rushdie, Wafa Sultan, Ali Sina, Tasleema Nasrin etc.

It's really a stupid thing to hang into a certain religion and even more stupid to argue over a religion. Just know that religions are meant for the purpose of guiding people. Not for fighting with the followers of some other religion.

The simple fact is that in America we don't see Muslims standing in the way of our freedoms. The majority of the policymakers in the US are Christians and that's why they draw the lion's share of our criticism.
Don't get me wrong, Islam is just as silly as Christianity, and even worse in some respects (and better in others,) but the politicians who have their boots on our necks are not, by and large, Muslim.

I personally speak out against Christianity (of the fundamentalist variety) because they are the ones who have made it their business to try and spread their religious beliefs into law and into classrooms. If a Muslim tries to force his or her beliefs on me or into American government, I would then speak out against those beliefs. Separation of church and state is important to me and for the security of a democratic society...I couldn't care less what people believe as individuals.
Anyway, almost any argument against Christianity also applies to Islam.
