Have been going to Thailand for a long time myself, go about 6 times a year now, married a Thai woman, have a house and land and so on. Your question is hard because anyone who has been will say nothing bad worth remembering has ever happened and those who have not been wont understand us. Simply the most wonderfull place I have ever been and the kindest people you will ever meet.

Well you have years of experiences in Thailand and I only have one summer but when I compared Thailand to Cambodia or Laos I some how got the impression that the other two countries were more like Thailand once was... like Thailand has been slightly ruined in some senses by tourism. It seem Cambodia was on it's way in that direction but not quite there yet. Laos was great but way behind. Thai people seemed to know tourism well and be quite affected by it to a great extent. At the same time, when I think of Thailand... I still wanna go back. Aside from the Royal Palace, the temples left something to be desired for me when I compare them to Angkor Wat or Luang Prabang. However, the beaches were fantastic... the people around were friend, nice and fun and the food was good (in some places).
Still I feel there are definitely at least some complaints to be made about Thailand. I haven't yet been to Vietnam (not for another month yet) and I do hear that the average Vietnamese person working in tourism may be even pushier than those of Thailand. We'll see.
Regardless, I tell everyone about Thailand but I don't fail to tell them about the numerous negative aspects either (several of which that they share with neighboring countries anyway).

Honestly I didn't like it that much. I went alone about 2 years ago. It is pretty dirty. There are prostitutes everywhere. I got a tropical rash, that was fun. The massages hurt. It is way to touristy.
The only place I liked was Koh Phangan because it was fun as a place to relax and party with young people.
I think the social problems in Thailand are pretty bad too. I hung out with some buddist monks in Chaing Mai and they told me how bad the AIDs and such is getting because the girls don't know how disease is transmitted. It is also very corrupt. One hotel I stayed was a family kind of place but the event planner was selling drugs which were sold to him by the Thai Police!
I think it still has this mystic for people some how. I blame The Beach.

I will have to beg to differ on the negative perceptions that Europeans seem to have of Thailand and its people. This is because of the snob attitude that these Europeans have of Asians and also the tolerating and accommodating attitude of the Thais that the Europeans feel that they are only good in the negative sense. Face the fact, the europeans only go there for one motive and that is too indulge in sex because it is cheaper due to their stronger currency. But do they actually know the Thais well? I doubt so. So those stories that these ignorants bring back with them tend to exaggerate the negative aspects of Thailand while omitting the positive aspects of the country and its people.
I had been to Thailand many times. I like it for its natural beauty. There is much for me to explore.
One of my liking is the people. They are very hospitable. Initially when I do not know any Thai words at all, and they no English, somehow, I was able to get friends just through patience and basic sign language. They were patient with me and eventually I was able to master some basic words to get things properly. Throughout these times, they never let the language barrier stop me from getting what I want. In fact they try very hard to understand me, getting friends or whoever they can get hold off too try to interpret the "conversation."
Anger is seldomm expressed by the Thais. It is just not in their culture.
There is definitely a lack of understanding of their lifestyle. Many women work to help feed their family. Even sacrificing themselves along the way. For the benefits of their siblings and parents, they willingly undertake chores that Europeans scorn at. But have you ever consider the story behind them? Some westerners feel they are just after money, well right in a way, but it is money for their family that is the driving factor. That is why they are so willing to marry out in the hope that they get a good spouse who can help them look after their family. This is a fact.
So, for those who have heard only the negative aspects of Thailand and its people, please know that those are definitely not the truth about this beautiful country. Those stories are subjects of "conquests" of the westerners taking advantage of a hospitable nation.

It's the people and their loveliness affecting everything about the country. How can you not be happy and say positive things about a country where the people are so kind and so nice? People who greet you with their traditional Thai gesture of welcome . This then extends out : businesses show superb customer service, business transaction appear honest (no bait and switch) crime is low so people are not uptight and not afraid of each other, government on a day to day basis is efficient and honest (the average person does not see or deal with corruption on the senior government level) Outside of Bangkok parts of the land still "seem" untouched even though developed
I have been to Bangkok countless times (I lived in the region and business and onward travel brought me there) In the early 90s there was something bad : the traffic . You could walk faster than a cab could take you anywhere and the pollution was so bad you could feel the gas on your skin . But then the Thais built the sky train which made travel inside Bangkok a delight. What a country ! What a people !

only good news??? I have to disagree. In europe what you normally hear when its not about the poaradise like beaches and beautiful landscapes:
1. Prostitution and sex tourism
2. The Tsunami killing thousands
3. Violence in the South of the country
4. A corrupt prime minister who is misusing his power for his own businesses
the list goes on. So I don't see where there are only good news about Thailand? I have been here for many years also and many of these TV reports are prejudiced but still, Id say the reports are 50/50 good/bad.
Besides, many people probably go to thailand because of the bad news, especially point No. 1.

Ya got it all wrong. As a matter of fact, there's always news circulating in the mass media (newspaper, radio news, and television) stating about them reports of tourists that got raped and killed, political issues (Prime Minister Thaksin walloping every single thai baht from his fellow countrymen and also disrespecting the King of Thailand); news of bombs planted in shopping malls; news of buddhist monks that get shotted at by Islamist rebels; news of killings everyday via violence against children and wives; and also news that Thaksin is gonna sell the country to foreigners before he would ever step down. There are other hundred and one news not covered by the media. Drugs etc.etc. These are either covered up by the police force via bribery and the like.

maximum of human beings are desirous to deliver you to the huge 'D', i think it quite is area of what's incorrect with our u . s . a . now. actual everyone giving up and dropping by employing the wayside and young ones no longer having 2 loving mum and dad of their domicile. I understand that he cheated and that i'm no longer able to in any respect condone such an action, yet your determination grew to become into to "forgive" him and pass forward. it quite is his duty to EARN your believe and not cover issues from you. the biggest area of your courting might desire to be communication, which looks to me to be lacking. First, he haven't any passwords which you do no longer know, 2d, you ought to not experience the might desire to snoop the two. Clicking on an grownup chat internet site does not unavoidably recommend that he's cheating, and can be reason for problem by way of fact of his denial (dishonesty). the two certainly one of you have a minimum of one baby and can behave like adults and talk your expectancies of another. in case you haven't any longer communcated what you anticipate and the consequenses of each of you no longer assembly expectancies, then why pass with the aid of a divorce? good lasting relationships take time, straightforward and open communication, slightly bending and attempt.
