Hi, generally the tap water is not safe to drink. Even in some major hotels in Bangkok. Most well-known hotel/resorts do install their own water filter system so it will be safe to drink from the tap. However, pay heed to the labels on the tap as to whether the supply is potable or not. Some do install separate drinking water line for the hotel guests. As an indication, if the hotel supply you with bottled courtesy water, their tap water is not potable.
Outside Bangkok, it is not adviseable to drink from the tap. Water is not that polluted, you can brush your teeth and what not, just you cannot drink it. Filtering standard is just not high. So rely on the bottled water, and do buy from the supermarkets for reliable sources, not from the raodside street vendor. Please note this. I will leave it at this.
Bottled water is not expensive so will be a good idea for your overall health.

No matter where you are in the world I believe when it comes to water we should use a filter or boil it for our own safety.I would say boiling is the best way as it kills the germs. In the East it is safer to boil water than drink it from the taps.

I would suggest that you use bottled water because you never know how clean the delivery system is (pipes etc.) the water may be clean but not the pipes.
as for Mr. me"s answer I think that the mention of brothels had nothing to do with your query however his statements only continue to reinforce the Myth of Thailand as a sexual destination> yes there are bad places there and there is a problem with AIDS but that problem exists any where that people go for that particular form of entertainment please realise that Thailand is many times maligned by such statements and that situation exists because of Farangs wanting it and looking for it .. Please remember that nowadays water is of an unassurable quality any where in the world even the good ole USA Please enjoy your time in Thailand take care and act responsibly

Thailand!!! OH my god no! And don't even keep that ice in your cocktails as it will make your real badly sick. Hygiene in Thailand is very very questionnable.
One would advise two things in thailand. If you are there for the brothels (which is wrong!) take care of aids and other diseases, as thailand is the country with individuals carrying the largest number of venerial and viral disease.
Second, never, never never use ice or even brush your teeth with tap water, as it is full of virus and germs. Take appropirate vaccine (typhoid) before going to visit Thailand, and try to avoid direct close contact as much as you can in crowded urban public spaces.

It 's quite ok .. becuase the organization has been informing that it s safe to drink ... but for me ( BKKian) .. I never drink water from taps since i was born .. So if it 's necessary, .... of course you can do it ..

Never had a problem myself but everyone is different. If it is a one time trip go with bottled water but if you are planning to go many times or retire here best get used to it now. Also depends on the water you are used to, city water, filtered, well, etc.
