Tap water is not safe to drink in Thailand and no Thai would think of drinking it. Throughout Thailand you will find bottled water. Bottled water is perfectly save and inexpensive. Bottling companies deliver large bottles of water and bags of ice to homes and restaurants regularly so it is perfectly safe and reliable. You can purchase small bottles at any market.

When eating at a street restaurant, a bottle of water (and sometimes a bottle of coke) will already be on your table. Simply open what you want to purchase. Beer, of course, is also available. They will bring you ice.

If you are backpacking then purchase a water filter / purifier before going to Thailand. You can find them at sporting goods stores. Purchase extra filters and, if appropriate, a repair kit so you can fix the device if it breaks in the field.

Enjoy!

Water from the taps is not for drinking, so you shouldn't drink it. Bottled water is safe enough from drinking in Thailand. I don't remember all the brands that are popular. Well... Nestle and Aura should be okay...

Singapore tap water quality even exceed WHO recommendation, so it is safe to drink direct.

For Thailand, tap water is generally not potable so you use bottled water that you buy from major shops and supermarkets. Not the roadside street vendors.

I wouldn't trust tap water in any developing country. Trust me, India gave me didntary and it's not fun. Better safe then sorry, go with bottled water ONLY!! And stick with a brand that you know, make sure that the bottle hasn't been tampered with.
