Lotsa!
In Air Traffic Control and shipping the basic difference is that VHF is line of sight between Tx and Rx. HF bends round the earth's surface so you can talk to stations maybe thousands of miles away. There are all sorts of other technical differences but if you can't do your own research I really can't be bothered doing it for you

Difference Between Hf And Vhf

Installing a VHF is relatively easy and requires no special tools except a skill saw perhaps to cut the hole. new radios will come with mounting brackets and a template to cut out the hole to mount the radio. When you install the unit make sure you use some sealant around the edges even if it has a rubber seal, they all leak after a while. The installation booklet is self explanatory. The antenna should be mounted has high as possible and again sealed with sealant, screws as well. If you have to drill a hole to run the coax, ensure you use a grommet around the coax and where it goes through the hole, again use sealant. Once installed the electrical wiring should go direct to a battery or via a terminal block, all new radios will come with an in line fuse. Check that there is a fuse in the holder, some don't come with one. Tidy up the coax and other wiring and secure with tie straps.

VHF-Very High Frequency & HF-High Frequency

They have oscilators in them which generate a carrier frequency which is in the HF / VHF band respectively.
The radio frequency spectrum is divided in to different bands because different frequencies have different transmission characteristics. The frequencies are allocated by national agencies, with a high degree of international agreement.

They have different transmitter and receiver. The way the wave length travel also different. Thus, the distance travelled is also different.

VHF generally are long range, but HF is longer. Normally HF is also known and line of sight range (which can be rather long).

Another wave length is UHF, those are shorter range.

Each works on different platform, and serve different purpose. At certain time and enviroment, certain frequency works better. Thus on board a ocean going ships, normally they will have all 3, please a Sit-com.

VHF is a higher frequency therefore shorter wave band than HF.

how do we know difference between VHF and HF radio

HF Not line of sight, 3-30MHz over the horizon comms.

VHF, Line of sight, shorter range, 30-300MHz, less affected by atmospheric noise and interference from electrical equipment than low frequencies.
