Just like those bookmarks in books; they mark the page you left. Where you want to pick up at, when you come back online and choose to go directly back to where you once were (to the page/site/keyword you were on earlier). This way you don't have to go through all those sites and links you had to go through to get there the first time. The trail had already been blazed for you.

Bookmark means saving the link of a particula page for later use. the browser remeber the address for later use.

In terms of MS Word bookmark means marking a word or phrase as a link or a important to review at any time.

u mark the desired LINKS to be saved by ur browser as link for easy access
