whats wrong with idolism? i know its an alien idea to a lot of modern religions but if you love to hoard pictures of your kids even when they grow up, how come you find it hard to imagine that some one might want their own version of God for themselves?

and sati was not a religious ritual, but a practice that has roots in self defence (much like japanese hara-kiri). Forced sati got abolished in India 150+ years ago

and the worship of cow thing has been done to death in so many places, I dont see why I need to get my hands dirty on this again

And you cant start a sentence with "i mean no offence" and end it with "mann its just pathetic"
It shows a degree of confusion!

Lastly, a religion is not annulled because some folks find it outlandish. A religion is annulled because everyone (and that includes it followers) find it outlandish. So until everyone decides to ignore hinduism, it will be a religion, whether you consider it to be so or not!

Peace be on all of you!

Hinduism has been maligned by Missionaries using their money and media.

Hinduism does not say about Sati or cow worship. Hinduism has the greatest philosophy which i think you people are not matured to understand

The core philosophy of hinduism can be found in Upanishadas and Gita, which is not a bunch of fairy tales or funny customs.

Our philosophy deals mainly with Mind, Matter, Universe, Life, Death and Ultimate Truth.

What ever you mentioned has no place in Hinduism...and I challenge you to show me even one sentence from our scriputres (veda, upanishadas and Gita)...about this. India is a big country...and all social evils of India can not be attached with Hinduism

Dont be fooled by mis-propaganda by christians....try reading Gita and i am sure your perspective will change

Hinduism is a great relgion... it does not teach hatered..

first i wan to say that you cannot start with 'i mean no offence' and end with 'mann its just pathetic.' because calling it pathetic is, in and of itself, offensive.

now, on to your question. what is wrong with idol worship? you have pictures of jesus and mary and countless other saints that you look at while you worship. why is it so wrong to you that we hindus look at a physical object as a representation of god? yes, yes, i know. your bible says so. i mean other than that, why is it wrong?

sati was abolished more than 150 years. just as christians bruning witches at the stake ended many years ago. why do you have to keep bringing this up?

and ive commented on the "worship of cow" thing so many times. im not getting into that again.

so, in summary, hindus or hinduism is not pathetic. your insulting a religion you know nothing about is pathetic.

All religions, including Christianity, promote inequality, idolatry and worship of some sacred being.

just to clarify.. the priests that ordered cows to be worshipped were trying tp protet them so that poor people could beifit from dairy products over the long term than meat for once... sati started off as an honour killing... when invaders would not spare women - in order to avoid rapes and torture, women preferred to kill themselves...
its just unfortunate that a lot of hindu traditions and beliefs have been interpretted incorrectly or have been blindly continued over the ages. since its such an old religion - or philosophy as you will, it is more rigid to change. however, there are a lot of strong points to it - including respect for women, even worshipping them as godesses, beautiful festivals and love and respect for all.

Yes.

ALL THE ILL IDEAS ABOUT THE RELIGION U GAVE R THE CHANGED FORMS FROM WHAT THEY WERE WHEN THE RELIGION CAME INTO EXISTANCE. tHIS CHANGE WAS BROUGHT ABOUT BY THE PEOPLE WHO WANTED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE WEAK IN THE SOCIETY.

Have proper knowledge about a topic before giving a strong opinion about it. I am sure u r not even aware of all the ghosts hiding in the pages of Bible even though u r a christian.

Best wishes,

yea and mormans were formed from a guy who recieved scrolls form god and wrote them down so the world could see but when he was finished he went to heaven and took the scrolls with him so no one ever saw them and yet mormons have their own religeous book and whatever based on something that probly never happened and even if it did no one even knows what the scrolls said so they could say worship satan or die and no one would know better

so dont beash on others religeons cuz they worship cows or anything unless your athiest...cuz if you really know ur stuff all religeons are "just pathetic"

The Hindu religion is way older than Christianity..it is more complex too, Christianity has stolen many ideas from it.

Anything that is a person guiding principle is their religion.

If a person is an Atheist, then that is their religion. The U.S. Supreme Court agrees.

yes...it is just not your religion.

if it is ok for christians to promote polygamy, slavery, and killing women for not being virgins, why not? the bible has been used in america in the past to uphold support for segregation, anti-semitism, opposition to women's suffrage, war...

(not that i want to assume you are christian, just an example)
