I think part of it may have to do with the fact that I also love sour candy, which may make my tongue more sensitive?

You're burning your taste buds. Hot Tamale candy is made with cinnamon oil, which is where the yummy cinnamon taste comes from. The cinnamon oil in your Hot Tamales is quit literally burning the skin on your tongue.

The same thing is happening with your sour candy habit. Sour candy is made sour by adding citric acid which also strips the skin off of your tongue. You really need to take some time to let your taste buds heal, you can do perminate damage to them.

try sucking on a piece of bread/tortilla to absorb some of the oil. Also, milk or cheese might do the trick. Enjoy
