AVG Anti Virus Free edition is a good choice if you don't want to pay lots of $$.

but to answer seriously I think there is one virus I do not know the name but it goes after the video card and wipes it out. and all you get is a black screen
I do not know if that is a virus or adware in any sence I suggest norton's 2006 anti-vius with out firewall , if running xp
and also spyware doctor you can download that at netscape.com and please buy the full version not the limited trial version of the program $19.95
this will work nicely it does for me.

www.grisoft is good and its free. Norton is a resource hog and is very demanding
