Despite the anti-patriotic statement above, I would suggest contacting a recruiter. Most recruiters now have programs where they teach you basic drill movements, physical training (PT), etc. Convince the recruiter you are serious about enlisting, and they will do PT with you to get your weight down. Having a workout partner does wonders for the psychology of working out.

Serving your country is about the most honorable thing I can think of. My 15 years of service (and counting) has made it possible for me to be who I am today.

EDIT: Morpheus - you have the freedom to make such chicken **** statements because men and women like torn hearted see a higher purpose than just serving their own self interests. I have read many of your anti-American statements, and you should be very ashamed of yourself. I certainly am ashamed of you.

Couple of things from my days in the Army.

Be in shape for basic training or they will stick you in fat-camp.
Here is the Army's physical standards for the 2 mile run, push ups, and sit ups by age and gender. http://usmilitary.about.com/od/army/l/blfitness.htm

If you can't do these, and pass the test, don't bother to apply, cuz it will be hard. Better to be tough on yourself at home first, than let the Army scream you into shape, which sucks hard!

How to do this. Circuit training. Look this up and start. Stretch and ease your way into it so your muscles and tendons get used to the strain. Eat right, not necessarily less. You can eat a mountain of salad, fruits, and veggies and you probably won't gain any weight. Muscle CONSUMES fat, even when you are asleep or not working out. That is why you need to build muscle, so it works for you 24/7 no matter what. This makes losing body fat much easier, but muscle is heavy and you may not see a difference on a scale, so don't look. Get a body-fat test to see actual progress.

If you talk to a recruiter they will probably encourage you and help you loose weight. They will also do a tape test. You can join the military if you pass the tape test even if you are overweight. The measure your BMI in the tape test. They tape your neck forearm and I think stomach or waist. I think you can be 8 or ten pounds overweight when you join but you have too loose those extra pounds in basic training. Also before you join the military you should get used to running two miles doing some sit-ups and push ups, you will continue to improve in training.

Go to your local army recruiter and let them help you get set up on a program that will help you to get rid of those unwanted pounds. You also really need to want to do this otherwise you will fail. My son was over the weight limit and he lost 40 pounds to join the Army.. he is happier and healthier than he has been in years... Just stick with it and you will get there...

Run for an hour or 2 a day.

If you can't run for a whole hour walk for the rest of it.

Be sure to exercise to time, at least 40 min for fat burn.

exercise every day

drink lots of water all day and do it before meals to fill you up.

You will be in boots in no time.

Running is the best calorie burning exercise, so just keep on running and God bless you for wanting to serve.

Good for you. I would suggest extreme dieting and running. Maybe get a road bike and sprint for about five miles, but dont push too hard. It gets your heart rate up high for an extended amount of time, but again dont get it too high.

Don't waste your time. Go to College. Be someone. The military is for fools.

you should run everyday. start off by walking at least an hour up a hill everyday. then vary it up and start jogging/walking for at least an hour up a hill. do it six times a day in two months, you should see the results.
