I’ve been thinking about this for several years now...especially with the internet becoming such a main stream form of communication. Was the Tower destroyed because of Man’s desire or because of the result of a combined effort on the part of mankind to live as one? For all you scholars I know this question is basic but I wanted to convey the meaning in a simple form. Our language and cultural barriers are being broken again should be wry? Am I the only one who has thought about this?

The reason the people were dispersed from building the tower is because they were doing the opposite if what God had told mankind to do. Remember that God had commanded Noah and his descendants to "fill the earth" with their offspring (Genesis 9:1; See also Genesis 1:28) Directly disobeying God, the people decided to group together at Babel. God confused the languages of the people and ultimately they had to disperse and ended up "over all the surface of the earth" (Genesis 11:9).

God's original purpose included mankind living all over the earth. The building of Babel was an attempt to rebel against that command. However, everything that God purposes will come to be. Nothing can stand in the way, as God proved at Babel (Isaiah 55:11).

it depends on what you believe. i believe now that most if not all the stories in Gensis is exactly that, stories. just like today, thousands of years ago, people were looking for answers about anything and everything. one of the big differences between then and now is that we currently have more information from discoveries and experimentation than the scollars from generations past. schology and history tells us if you split a group of people (who originally speek the same language) and seperate them for a few generations the social customs and language will change over time (modern day ebonics for example). if these two tribes come into contact again after such an experience, they will have a hard time if any trying to communicate with each other, even though they both share a common ancestry. look at the nomads that crossed the ice bridge from asia to north america, and look at how many different indian tribes with different customs and languages was created from this event. most of the stories of the bible are fables that both try to explane the reason for something as well as teach a moral or ethical lesson......man should reach for the stars, but shouldn't be SO arrigant to think that we are the masters of the stars of the universe.

it is not by chance that there is so much hate in the world ,it has been carefully orchestrated and nurtured

,and already started in Babylon 6000 years ago
this was the story of the tower of Babel.
humanity cannot be controlled if there is an imense civilisation that thinks like wise or that is at peace

people had to be split up into groups .cultural.religious .race .politically ,whatever
and so could be easier controlled

and then had to be set against each other so that money could be made on war and speculation .

this is the ancient strategy of the illuminati .which persists to this day and is even more intense then ever

in this way they have maintained control for all this time over the whole civilized world which abides by one or more of the organised religions .All of whose leaders are subject to the illuminati ,the Vatican included.

this is what Americans have to say about local conditions

QUOTE
" The world's power structures have always 'divided to conquer' and have always 'kept divided to keep conquered.' As a consequence the power structure has so divided humanity--not only into special function categories but into religious and language and color categories--that individual humans are now helplessly inarticulate in the face of the present crisis. They consider their political representation to be completely corrupted therefore they feel almost utterly helpless. " - R. Buckminster Fuller (1981) Critical Path
Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government. Whenever things get so far wrong as to attract their notice, they must be relied on to set them right. Notably, this IS common-sense.

And this is why there is so much racial violence and hate and wars ,because it has been manufactured ,

The Tower of Babel was an apex of a civilization (maybe last expression of tech avail before the flood) that may have gone thru a golden age of knowlege like the golden age of Greece and our age of information now. Something happened to consciousness, and there was a collapse explained by God confusing the languages. Maybe Plato used some ancient documents/glyphs of that civilization to construct Paradise Lost. What they were building in reality is lost to time and language-what they said is a tower could have been an antenna for example. This is really a good question, and I encourage you to continue to question. Below is some sources-may not be true-you judge, but it sure will exercise your brain.

If the Tower of Babel had been completed, mankind would never have advanced further, taking control of the world as Adam was charged at the Beginning. Therefore, the destruction of Babel was necessary to allow mankind to fulfill its purpose, just as the expulsion from Eden was.

Today's breaking-down of barriers is actually causing us to spread out more across the world as we become true cosmopolites.

It can't be a bad thing, therefore.

The true meaning of the story is that the ancient bronze age people needed an explanation for the different languages and cultures that existed in their time. All those different cultures didn't make a lot of sense with their story that all of us came from Noah's family. So the story of Babel was invented to explain it.

I wouldn't worry. When we finally break down all those barriers and learn to work together for peace and the betterment of all mankind, we will finally find God.

The Tower of Babel was damaged/destroyed by the forces of Persian king Xerxes I. (586 b. C.–465 b. C.) during the Persian invasion. In early 323 b.C. Alexander the Great ordered to completely demolish the remains of this former Marduk temple in order to rebuild it. Never happened though, since Alexander died a few months after that.

What you were reading is an interpretation of those events by jews that had been forced to live in the Babylonian metropolis, but unlike others didn't manage to integrate with their society, and were allowed to return to the city they were deported from (guess which one) during said Persian invasion.

You might find it interesting that the tower was build during a time when the lingual plurality already existed.

I believe it was destroyed because it was rebellion towards Gods command to go and multiply through all the earth and how you said as a combined effort to live as one.In the 90s I had seen a full page ad for the European union showing a renaissance style drawing of the tower of babel being rebuilt with most of the top being modern skyscrapers. What a coincidence, you think?

It also means these are the final days, The tower was destroyed because of the arrogance of man thinking a tower would bring him closer to God and the tower was built by very confused and wrong doing people. Is it not nice to know at least we as christians broke the barrier so that we could tell people of Gods love and understanding. You know they have a right to hear too.

You say you want the true meaning behind the destructing of the tower, do you have a false meaning your holding back from us?

After the great flood where all the peoples that mixed with the fallen angels died, the King Nimrod decided to build a tower high enough to reach Heaven and thus be saved if another deluge would occur.
