Idk, maybe because you never let him out of his cage, though you have the most chances and power to?

Lovebirds are picky little things. They only usually bond to one person. It is one of the smallest parrots bred in captivitiy and has a personality larger than life. If they are not given attention on a daily basis they can become nippy. One of the biggest misconceptions about lovebirds is that you must purchase them in pairs. Lovebirds were given their name because 2 birds will bond closely together and ignore everyone else.

well maybe your bird has a liking for specific types of people....and in your grandfathers case...old. Or maybe he has a different way of petting and greeting the bird. Does he get playful with the bird maybe it likes to be playfully played with. Try doing exactly what your grandfather does around the bird.

Just happens that way. With people sometimes too, haven't you been completely annoyed by someone who wants to be your friend? I bet grampa spends a lot of time with him during the day huh?
Keep trying, offer lots of treats and affection. Don't get another bird. They will pay more attention to each other and none to you or your grandfather.

Haha, that's quite strange. He may have a liking to your grandfather, maybe your grandfather does something he likes?. Why don't you buy him another lovebird... after all, they're meant to be in a pair.

love birds are rather badly named birds. they tend to bond with one person or bird, this is why when kept in pairs they are rarely friendly towards humans. although you are his primary care taker the bird seems to have chosen your grandfather to bond with, you can keep working with him but it is likely that he will not change his (the bird) mind. it is also rather likely you bird is a girl since he has bonded to a man. it just seems to happen that way more often than not
