I feed him ice cream. He seems to be drawn to it. Tonight, I sat down with a chocolate ice cream cone and he had a few licks. That's all it ever is, just a few licks, nothing more. I did put about half a teaspoon of ice cream in a bowl for him yesterday and he loved it. So, should I consider this a little mutual treat between kitty and I, or, is it something that could be harmful to his health?

Like I said, it's literally like a one-two-three lick thing. It's not like I give him a whole bowl or anything.

As a Veterinarian of 9 years, I can honestly tell you that it will not harm your felines digestive system to have a little ice cream. It sounds like you're not going overboard, just sharing a minuet amount.

Keeping in mind that your feline is older than 6 months with a healthy digestive system, there isn't much that would hurt him in way of ice cream. Keep in mind, cats know what is and isn't good for them and will hesitate to eat anything that doesn't smell right.

A treat between yourself and your baby is not a bad thing; it just depends on what you give them. As someone else said, chocolate is a no no. A few licks won't kill your cat, but it most definately isn't good for him. As far as I know, vanilla doesn't harm cats. But as said before, and as you are already doing, once in a while and just a little bit won't hurt.

You'll know when you give too much, because the litterbox won't be smelling very lovely...or you'll have to clean vomit off the carpet. My own furry friend LOVES mozzerella cheese. Will not eat anything other than that kind. So ONCE in a while, I'll give her a nibble. Just a nibble, as long as she's been good that day and I have that kind at my house. :)

You're a good owner to be so concerned over a spoon-full. Kudos.

I sometimes let my cats lick out the empty ice cream bowl and yes, they love it! (then I don't have to wash the bowl! my mom just loves to hear me say that!) But that's pretty much the limit. A little every now and then is ok. A lot is bad. Too much sugar isn't good, and dairy products can cause diarrhea in adult cats. Mine are 16, 14, and 7 years old,

Hi..I really don't like the chocolate business,Because chocolate
is suppose to kill a dog,So i don't know if cats are including about the chocolate..To be safe,I wouldn't give your kitty any kind of chocolate..But i don't think any other ice cream would hurt..And i think you can keep your scret between you and your kitty..I can tell you really love your pet..Nothing wrong with that..

My cat will lick the leftover icecream out of my bowl before I wash it. Almost any flavor I have. Ive been letting him do this for years and it hasnt hurt him at all. Vet checkups are always A-OK. He's about 10 years old by the way.

I've heard that chocolate is even worse for cats than dogs. I'd recommend getting him some plain vanilla ice cream. Just in case. Also it's been said that both cats and dogs can't taste sweetness, dunno if it's true, but I have heard it. In the long run I'd only keep it to like a once a week treat, to be safe.

A little is fine, stear clear of chocolate though, that is bad for them.
Cow's milk (ingredient in icecream) can cause diarrhea, but that's if they get more than, say, half a cup.
So, enjoy, the both of you :)

Yes. It will hurt your cat. Cats can not digest dairy. The more you fed it dairy, the more problems it will get with its' stomach. Plus, choclate contains thermobine (sp?), an ingredient that is LETHAL to cats if given enough of it.
