Do you mean slapped? If someone - a stranger - slapped me in the market without any warning or provocation, I would be shocked, stunned, and speechless for a long moment. Then I would probably ask why they did it, being ready to duck and run if it looked like they were going to do it again. I might consider having them arrested for assault - I really don't know. If they appeared to be emotionally or mentally unstable, I guess I would just let it pass.
If it was someone I knew, I would ambush them in the parking lot and give them a whupping. (just kidding)
