Jesus is a free gift because salvation and a relationship with God are waiting for you, you just have to accept them.
As far as the tenth thing, I apologize, the Church has really screwed this thing up. Tithing is actually a Jewish word that literally means a "tenth." Biblically, Christians are never called to give a "ten %" exactly. True Christian giving is more about your motivation behind it than the amount given, or the exact percent.

We don't. Paul said this: "Each of you must give what you have decided in your heart, not with regret or under compulsion, since God loves a cheerful giver." (II Corinthians 9:7)
Jesus said, "Give, and it will be given to you. A large quantity, pressed together, shaken down, and running over will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use, you will be measured." (Luke 6:38)
Those of us who recognize how much we've been forgiven, give much. Ten percent is an Old Testament concept. Some churches use that as a goal, but I know that there are many who give much more than that. Those who can't or won't, don't.

God doesn't need your money because He already owns everything in the universe. The 10% goes to the upkeep of the church, pays the salaries of the staff, utilities, the mortgage, missions, a portion is sent to denomination headquarters, etc. It takes money to run a church just like it takes money to run your house. I agree, though, that some church buildings are way too extravagant.

Like anything eldse-it takes money to get the "product' out. Our Lord is not a product but His word is, so to speak and many organizations are dedicated to spreading the gospel through dispersion of bibles world-wide in that countrie's language and that does not come cheap. Neither does paying a church's bills.

That was something of the old testament, in the church of the new testament there is nothing said about titheing. If you go to a church give an offering to support, but you should not be required to tithe.

Good question... Yes, churchs need to get money somehow but those churches that ASK for money, especially a certain percentage of your wages. If people want to give, than more power to them, if they can't and they want to worship then they should be able to without feeling any guilt.

It's the balance of give and take
What does the church give you ????
And then what they think is good enough to take ?????
I don't believe in 10%
I believe and invite for a donation left up to the people.
What you give out comes back in a greater amount or when you need it the most.
Love & Blessings

God does not need our money. But he asks us to give so that when let go of 10% we are reminded that he's made it possible for the other 90% to be in our hands to begin with. We use our minds and muscles to earn a living, but he gave us our bodies. Btw, God only want's 10% from those who are happy to give it. No grudgingly throwing a few bucks in the plate : )

some churches believe in obeying Old Testament Laws, one of which was tithing. Others are just in the "ministry" for the money, but many are just sincerely trying to serve others & God & even that takes money....
again, only God knows who is who becuz only God can see the heart....
but if it offends you, find a church that doesn't practice it.
