I would usually easily get irritated everytime I would hear or read something offensive regarding Christianity. This gave me something to really ponder about why Christians are so hated when I knew and honestly believe right from the very start that Christians are the most kind, charitable, forgiving, respectful and tolerant people on the face of earth. I myself a Catholic Christian was so surprised to know after a while that there are many self righteous, finger pointing and judgmental bigots among the flock. The Christian spirit that have made christians proud to be called as one, has become an accusing entity and doesn't seem to come from God that they say they worship.
Some would point to the the spiritual influence of the Holy Bible as the source of all their newfound faith and would sort out the rest as unsaved. I get hurt when people besmirch Christianity because I thought Christians are one mind, one spirit and one body only to realize that bigotry is genuinely a reality that we have to start accepting among us and these people will never admit it because they claim that Jesus told them so. But didn't Jesus taught Christians to preach and not to discriminate? Didn't Jesus taught us to love and not hate?
They claim to preach but their preaching has become too occlusive in that they would act like sinless followers of the faith. Jesus rebuke the sinners of his time because being free of sins, He has all the right to do so and no one can question that authority at any time. And these newly born Christians think they are sinless like Jesus and would usually put themselves above other christians as if they have reached heaven preaching to the christians on earth below them. These people have been blinded by whoever taught them with such sense of belief. And may the good Lord have mercy on them.
Now I understand why more and more people are alienated from Christ because of this type of Christianity. It has made more enemies than friends, more skeptics than believers, more hatred than love and more animosity than unity. The shepherds have become the wolves themselves who would pretend to defend you but attack you when you are not looking. Oh ! ! ! How treacherous these people can be and yet they point to other faiths as wrong not knowing that they themselves are wrong too in their way of herding the flock. They act as big brothers as if they will always be more than willing to offer their shoulders for others to cry on but as you cry they brand you as crazy. What a pretentious holy people.
Now I know why Christians are being hated everywhere. I, a Christian who had been all my life, had become a skeptic with this kind of Christianity that I saw. I know that there are a lot more allegedly saved ignorants than the cultured, scholarly and well informed ones that's why destruction is faster than building the faith. And this is quite worrysome and alarming knowing that population is fast multiplying and we might end up with more adversaries than allies in just a matter of time. And Christ can never be glorified this way. So who's to blame?
Now I will leave Yahoo Q&A because I feel that I don't belong here anymore. This place is only for rigtheously saved people.

If you want to talk history...why did you leave out all the times Christians have persecuted those of differing beliefs?
I would say that people usually poke fun at fundamental Christianity...because it's easy to do and makes others laugh. Then we have South Park that pokes fun at everyone religious or not. Anyway, it's free speech. We should be thankful to live in a society where people can voice their view of the dominant religion.
Why...other than being funny...because quite a few Christians make it their business to make everyone else become Christians and also try to get their religion into public schools an laws. That's what many (of coarse not all christians are this way) do which makes Christianity offensive...not to mention hell threats to all those who don't share the same belief.

It's because people are stupid and think that how someone worships a higher being differently is a reason to kill. i don't think that Da Vinci Code isn't testing anyone's faith. The book is in the fiction section of bookstores.
But the Christians have done plenty of persecutions of their own such as the Spanish Inquisition, Witch Burnings in Europe, killing off the Native Americans for practicing rituals, etc. But this doesn't mean that Christians are bad people just like the people of religions who persecuted Christians doesn't make them bad.

Dave R said it best. He should get the 10 points.
I would just like to add a little.
1. As far as persecution goes Christians have had it pretty light.
2. Christians have proven they can and will dish it right back out.
3. This is only a problem because some christians (true or otherwise) try to effect my life with their religion.
4. We are not Anti-Christian. We are Anti-Hatemongers. When Christians present them selves in such a way we react. Atheists have treated other Atheists the same persecution for the way they treat others (christians are treated the same as everyone else).

First of all let's not get too caught up in a persecution complex for stuff like "getting made fun of" and the making of movies that offend us. There are Christians around the world suffering *real* persecution, so don't insult them by even suggesting there's anything like persecution here in the U.S.
That being said, Christianity can be a very offensive belief to those who don't believe. Christianity makes some very simple but exclusive claims that people don't like.
Also, in our country, we Christians haven't done ourselves any favors. Our most vocal leaders get all worked up over issues which don't matter (prayer in schools?!!!). As a group we've been very visibly self righteous and condescending and unloving toward non-Christians. That has left a bad taste in a lot of peoples' mouths over the years.

Dude, give it a break, OK. I mean, can't y'all just take a little joke and lighten up a bit? People who are of faiths other than Christianity become friends with each other all the time. This is funny because occasionally a little argument breaks out between the two about religious belief that usually ends up being more humorous than serious. But when there is a Christian involved, it is usually "Oh, God did this, God did that..." and I'm not saying it's wrong to believe that - after all God is Supreme - but you need to laugh a little to and enjoy a little sarcasm and humor every now and then.
And here's another MAJOR ISSUE:
Not to be rude or anything but... all the Christians out there need to stop trying to convert other people. If us non-Christians want to go rot in hell (which is what y'all believe will happen if we don't convert and even that is pretty wierd because basically half the world would belong to Satan), then that's our problem. The previous sentenc was sarcasm, in case you didn't get it :). And by the way, do you really think we want to? God never asked y'all to convert other people. Mind your own business like the rest of us. And plus, you never see Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists or people of any other religion out advertising their religion in public.
It made me sick when I saw that some of my best friends were asking me to go to a party with them and then realizing that they actually brought me there in an attempt to convert me. My 7 year old cousin was told she would go to hell if she didn't convert. OK... now c'mon... don't you think that's going a little too far? Scaring children? You're brainwashing them from childhood...
And let me make one final statement... I don't care what y'all say or how many times you say it, you will never shake the faith I have in my God because He has protected me and my family and guided me into making the right decisions. I also believe that life is here for us to enjoy now and we should not be worrying too much about the future. In the end the choice is up to you: either continue wasting your time trying to force me and the rest of us non-Christians into religious oppression or be wise and start enjoying life.
Peace ☼

LOL, the same reasons many christians put down other faiths. When you know your way is right, then all the other ways become wrong and people often feel those who disagree with them or have a different way of looking at the world and the after life are "evil" and should be silenced, ridiculed or even destroyed to protect the "one true way" (or the current status quo).
You speak of the lions and persecution, let's discuss that for a moment.
Jesus preached blasphemy, that's why (legally) he was executed. He was a danger to the current religious and cultural state of the land, a "thought criminal" if you will.
To put it in modern terms, Jesus and his followers were very much like the Hari Krishnas; they bugged people. They spoke of things the rabis said was not true. They spoke against the current "laws of God". There was no "love your neighbor", it was "an eye for an eye". The teachings of Jesus were so radical and revolutionary that the society responded with fear, hatred and loathing. It's just human nature.
And to top it all off he dared to claim he was the son of God. I think in modern times if someone were to come down, preach things our pastors said went against the bible and then claimed to be the son of God, we might treat him much as they did back then.
Next we move on to the romans you mentioned. Again, christians were dangerous. They preached teachings that went against the state religion. they told people not to worship the roman Gods, they turned children against their parents, they caused turmoil and strife. The people feared them.
Then, they had the audacity to claim that Ceasar was not only not a God, but not the King you should listen to. Instead they taught obedience to God and the teachings of Jesus. Neither of these were very Roman ideals.
So, much as we demonize certain sectors of our own society today because they think differently than we do, christians were deemed "undesireable and dangerous" and many of them were executed.
After all someone had to "protect the children".
Preaching counter to what society "knows" to be true is always a persecutable "crime". Human nature never changes and new ideas are almost always looked at as dangerous in the begining.

christians being poked at and killed back in ancient time? sure, u are right. However, back then they didnt control continents and they didnt have and raise armies, and having the richest men in the world supporting them. Back then they lived in huts and ate inferior food.
But today it is a totally different story. Our country, the powerful country in the world is being run by christians. The most richest men in the world are christians. Nations rise and fall because of these powerful men.
As for what u are doing wrong. perhaps it is the unending hatred of others, the endless prejudice throughout our society against other cultures and religions. It is quite bad. And the only excuse used by christians are that unbelievers are wrong and must go to hell. Many other peaceful religions do not do that okay. They dont tell u that u are going to hell if u dont follow them. They dont intentionally hurt you because they think u are working for the devil. They also dont try to convert every public school into their religion.

Christians are not exactly free from blame here either. Inquisitions, witch trials etc etc etc
What xians have done wrong to offend the world so much is to demand that everyone joins your club, threatening people with non existent places like hell if we don't. We can't go shopping in town at weekends without a loudspeaker telling us we are all going to hell if we don't join your club and in the early days, your sect killed people for simply not believing in it.As a Pagan I get a lot of abuse and private abusive mails from xians telling me I am a devil worshipper ( I don't acknowledge xianity so how on earth can I acknowledge a xian entity- beyonf belief) which I find extremely offensive.I get persecuted and threatened with all sorts of evilness for not being in your club. I could go on but I have a feeling this will all go over your head.
I have a right to defend myself from threats and false accusations made in the name of your club.

We will have to understand the feeling of Anti- Christianity in its real sence before we can discuss it.
Firstly I feel the terrorists arond the world are propagating the christian as Anti-Islam for their evil desires. Although the world has got this point, but still we have to defend christianity in its right sence and proove that the west at larg and chirstianity are for betterment of the mankind and are against terrorism but not anti-Islam at all.
Secondaly the issue of some recent movies. This is the normal change of the open socity and we will have to fight against it under proper provisions of the Law.
Third is the issue of charge against the church for propagating change of religion in the third world by monitory insentives. This is also a serious charge against the missioneries and I feel the Church should issue guidelines to the missioneries around the world to refrain from activity of relegion change of the poors by giving monitory consideratons.
