This would be so much easier in a format where it could be handled as a dialog. That way you could question me and ask for clarification. But let's see what I can offer you. (Mind you, this will be mostly Catholic Christian theology at work, but I think the principles are the same.)
The trinity is three-in-one. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are considered to be the three "persons" of the singular God. Now, other than Jesus as he was upon this earth (we'll get there in a minute), God in all three persons cannot be described in the manner that we describe our world because God is not categorical. That is to say, God is not bound by the confines of space and time. So describing God as triplets or a three-headed hydra or someone with multiple personality disorder is not going to work. Nor are we talking about "persons" as physical entities, much less humans.
Let's start with God the Father. The Father is the creator who created the universe. The Father loved creation so much that he (sorry for the gender language) expressed himself into the world. Jesus is sometimes known as the Word of God, because he is God's "word" (or self) "spoken" (begotten) into three dimensions and space and time as a human man. (By the way, Jesus is both human and divine, but that's a discussion for another question.) The Holy Spirit (aka, the Spirit of God) is also known as the Breath of God/Life. The Holy Spirit is the bound between God the Father and creation. All three of these are one God, but in different aspects.
Yes, this is known in Catholicism as a "Mystery." This doesn't mean it's a puzzle to be solved; it is instead something that is beyond our human comprehension. We are to wrestle with Mysteries, question them, meditate on them, try to gain insights into them, but we will not understand them in our current form.

True Christians do not believe in a trinity. The Bible states that God is ONE God. God even commanded that his people know that he was ONE because so many people worship many Gods, sometimes in threes (Mark 12:29; Deuteronomy 6:4) The Bible never speaks of a trinity. Ever.
The trinity doctrine is devised by the Devil. It is impossible to draw close to an God who is represented as a mysterious trinity. However, one can easily draw close to a Father, just as Jesus drew close to his Father (John 5:20; James 4:8)
Is Jesus all knowing? Matthew 24:36 (note the scripture doesn't mention holy spirit either)
Did Jesus do his own will? John 5:19, 30; 12:49; Matthew 26:39
Is Jesus the supreme authority? John 14:28; Mark 10:40
Does God pray to God? John 17:1; Matthew 6:46
The Bible NEVER uses the phrase "God the Son". It only says the son of God (John 3:16; Matthew 3:17)
There are several other reasoning points too.
Although Jesus isn't God, God has given him vast authority (Matthew 28:18 note that in order for Jesus to receive that authority, he couldn't have possessed it before). Jesus, therefore is very powerful and is the head of the Christian congregation. And of course it is only through Jesus (by means of God's loving kindness) that salvation is possible. Jesus died for our sins whereas God cannot die.

How Did the Trinity Doctrine Develop? - Jehovah's Witnesses Official Web Site
What is the Trinity? Does the Bible teach it? Is Jesus Christ the Almighty God and part of the Trinity? What is the holy spirit, and how does it function?

God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are different beings with the same spirit. The Holy Spirit makes them ONE. When we are reunited to God thru Jesus, we receive the Holy Spirit also, which makes us one with God, Jesus and Holy Spirit. The scriptures say that God said "Let them be one with us as we are one"

Jesus spoke of this.
It is a big debate among theologians.
There are UNITARIANS (one GOD) and Trinitarians (God, Jesus and Holy Sprit or Ghost).
The UNITARIANS look to the 10 commandments. Thou shalt not have any God before me.
The TRINITARIANS look at Jesus, who said you must think of the Father, the son and the Holy Ghost.
This was such a hot issue that CHRISTIANS persecuted and CRUSIFIED Unitarians at one point in time, just like they did Witches and Heathens.
Sadly, the history of Christianity is not a very good one. It's filled with a lot of hatred, bigotry and intolerance.

this is a very difficult concept to explain. God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit are all individuals yet part of the One God. I can not really explain it, yet I believe in it as a tenet of Christianity. It is a mystery, which may sound weak to non-Christians, but as a part of my faith, I believe. Try this: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/15047a.htm

The mystery of the Holy Trinity is a complicated thing. Actually, one cannot fully understand it's true meaning. It's beyond us how there can be three distinct individuals yet all are One and the same. Scripture constantly (Christs teachings mainly) reminds us of this Truth. Don't try to figure it out, you can't, no one can.

Hi!
I love such questions...
Christ had to be human for Him to be qualified as Christ...
(So now He needed a human name because He really was(is) human. His human name is Jesus...)
Now God the Father works as Someone that Christ would practice His humanity to.e.g pray to Him, Cry to Him in times of trouble, obey etc.
(Christ is God telling us " I understand what you, human beings go through to obey me, the pain, agony, rejection, toil but you will make it")
And the Holy Spirit is the power behind Christ miracles and Wisdom....
But again remember, just in case we think that Christ is not God but a mere human being who was filled with God, HE WAS CONCEIVED THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT and not THROUGH A SPERMATOZOID OF MAN...so this means that His whole being is GOD! God is Spirit so He had to use an existing flesh (Mary) to bring about a human being because that which is flesh produces flesh!
Let's try to explain it this way again:
Greg is:
1. married to Joan and has two kids.
2. also an uncle to Tshepo.
3. Also he is a manager of Mc Donald.
3. Also he is a deacon in his church.
The question: Which one is GREG? Is it the husband to Joan? or a father to his kids? or the manager? or the deacon?
As it is difficult to choose between all these things Greg is, the same case applies with the TRINITY.
Remember, with God nothing shall be impossible therefore He is able be Christ at same time be God the Father and still be in us through the Holy Spirit.
People who once visited heaven will tell you that they felt like they went there for ONE day but on earth, their bodies were dead for 5 days or so...THIS IS A MYSTERY OF GOD. He is God the Great,He will amaze you.
Hug!

Look at water. It can be solid, liquid or vapor. Yet in whatever form it is still water. Think of a God who is one in essence but manifests himself in 3 ways. Its interesting that God uses water , the most abundant substance on Earth to demonstrate who he is.Jesus said , "Before Abraham was I AM". What did God say to Moses? He said, "I AM". Translate the Greek and its exactly the same. Jesus, the Father(God) and the spirit(which is in every living thing) are ONE in the same!!

Absolutely many will explain it to you I am sure but you will end up with a mystery and be ask to believe in magic. In pure truth a lie has many explanations since no fixed laws do govern a lie.
I can not explain it in any other way for its is only a dream in the minds of its adherers thus they alone must place it on the table as they do see it. I as a pure "NO" am restricted from dreaming up doctrines and seek them in constantly consistent truth.
