First, I would like to say that I am an atheist. I don't believe there is a god and here is my beliefs on WHY people think there's a god. (I'm only 13 so I don't know if everything will be true)

I believe in the big bang and evolution theories and I think there's substantial proof in these theories.

In the ancient times, if people didn't know something, they'd make something up like mermaids (really sea otters ) and the earth being flat. So religion was born, it explains where we came from, and where we go. People don't like the unexplained so they use religion as a way of explaining things and also people are afraid of death so they believe in a religion. They use religion and heaven (or whatever their beliefs are) as an ultimate goal.

Now if there IS a god, do you think (directed at Christens) he would want us to follow ever word of the bible. The bible tells us a way of living, not exactly how to live it. I would think if there was a God, he would accept any good people.

Fine then I mean "What do you think about my beliefs about religion?"

Sorry for reposting my question this wacky Yahoo answers format.

Further, I respect people's religion meaning if someone won't do something because it's against their religion then fine. What I don't like is people preaching about how we all need to be "saved" and that people will "pray for me" If I wanted to be your religion than I will but don't tell me that I should. It's not like your preaching will "change" me.

Well, I'm formally an agnostic. Basically I believe that there is a God but I require proof or some sort of explanation to placate the logical inequalities of religion. As for your beliefs, I agree with your view on how religion was conceived. Religion is a way for mankind to feel like it has somewhat of a grasp on what it does not know. I agree that religion sometimes can be derived from fear of the unknown as in the case of death as you brought up. Even though those fallible factors prompted religion, I think they don't serve to disprove that there is a God. I still believe that there is a God because in science and mathematics, one can begin to see the almost perfect composition of nature and the natural world. From things as large in scale as the weather, animal interaction, the food web, and the movement of heavenly bodies in space to the molecular and atomical composition of elements and vital organic compounds, one can see that almost everything has some sort of mathematical beauty to it, a greater order. I believe that such order cannot be merely a product of chance or coincidental events. I believe in respecting beauty and perfection itself because its proof that there is some sort of greater plan. On your thing on Christianity, I do agree with what you're saying. The way I see it, all major religions dictate that you should live your life as a good person, as a righteous person. I think that there must be some sort of truth hidden in the various religions, so I believe that taking the largest common factor of all religions (I'm a math type, can you tell? :)) and being a good person, should be enough, at least until you truly find the whole truth. (Oh, btw, I'm 16 and I'm not any closer to finding any answers than you are, but hey, its all about the journey)

While I won't address everything you've said (it's late and I'm just trying to find reasons to stay up), I will say that your very last statement begs the question- How do you decide who is "good?" To determine someone's goodness, you'd have to first determine a moral code. You'd then have to weigh out the good versus the bad. Do people who are 51% good get to Heaven? What about people who are 50/50? While I think there IS a moral code, I DON'T think people get to Heaven based on merits. Again, where do the 50/50 people go? To say simply that your goodness is based on your intentions doesn't cut it either. A pedophile might think he's acting completely within the realm of goodness as he molests a child, but any rational person would conclude that pedophilia is wrong. Where does the pedophile go based on his actions?
Again, there's all sorts of stuff to talk about with your question, but that was just the one thing I wanted to say. Oh, and your spelling and grammar are so refreshing if you really are 13. :)

If you believe in the Big Bang then you believe in God.

MATTER CANNOT BE DESTORYED OR CREATED.

Therefore science admits SOMETHING can always be, and be forever.

Is that NOT the defintion of GOD?

The Big Bang and Genesis are identical until we get to creation. Science says sea water and the Bible says dust of the Earth.

Now, do you REALLY BELIEVE you're a Monkey's Nephew?

You going to hang a picture of an APE up and say "That's my great, great, great, great, grand daddy?"

Is that were you think you came from. An animal?

We seem to behave like them, sometimes, except ANIMALS DON'T MAKE WAR!

Every seen 10,000 lions get together and go off and wipe out elephants or tigers?

Yeah, they HUNT in packs.

But, do they call all the other Lions and go off to a far off land and take over?

MAN is the ONLY animal that wages war!

Well, maybe a virus does that too!

Animals are far better behaved socially than man!

And I think God would accept any good people.

YOU may end up with your name in the book of life before mine!

I don't know. It IS possible!

But under your admitted belief system, you are more a believer in God and a Christian that most people who go to church!

God wants good people. It can't matter to him what they believe in, so long as they are good and follow the ways of "God" as closely as possible.

If you want to know the ways of "God" better, then read up and learn!

Separate the wheat from the chaff.

Learn who the false prophets are.

It does't take much to figure all that out.

When you're finished, how close are you to the ultimate true way of living?

That is up to you.

Are you ape or something FAR BETTER?

First off i have to agree with a few others here and say you're a very smart 13 year old.
Your beliefs aren't bad but I was the same way. I used to try to prove a lot of things wrong, but realized you gain a lot more when you research in an optimistic way. Just make sure you make an educated decision with religion, take time and study a few, that decision could possibly be your most important, then again it could be meaningless.

I swear to no religious dogma, but I accept that this world did not come from a big explosion, but by some Superior Being not of mankind.Have you ever heard an island form by an explosion? And if this Earth is by Darwin's theory, then why have this world not evaporate and form the next?Isn't it a fact that anything made by a bang, should go bang, bang, bang whenever it very well please?Or is it being controlled, and by whom? I know man makes bomb what or who make this bomb (Earth)?

first of all, i would like to congratulate you on your independent way of thinking and not conforming to society's structure of constraints. growing up i was forced to attend a christian based school and church (while my parents slept in) and was very frustrated with the "right and wrong way of living my life".

as time went on and i researched and studied different beliefs and philosophies, i developed my own form of spirituality. i am very spiritual and conscious of the universe. i live according to the laws of karma (energy of events and the boomerang effect), the golden rule (do unto others as you would have done unto you), and am on a path of personal and spiritual growth and betterment for myself and all creatures in the universe. remember, you are a guest of mother nature's while on earth and respect, care and compassion should be your guiding light.

science vs. religion. one of the biggest questions of all time. you are obviously a very intelligent young lady and feel confused and boxed in by all the "you should's" and "righteous attitudes" surrounding you. check out all the different religions. personally, i feel that there are so many "organized religions" so that the mass population in this world will find "something/someone" to believe in and validate their existance.

meditate and commune with nature. you will find the answers within.

my lesson to you sweet angel: in life you must listen, learn, let go and live. then you can dream, believe, soar and achieve. it is a beautiful day in the universe and you are a goddess within.

p.s. i just realized that i assumed you were a female and i sincerely apologize if mistaken

What do I think of your religious beliefs?

I think they are fine, they are yours.

Why should you care though? Your beliefs are y our own and no one else has the right to judge them. By throwing them out like this, its like you are challenging people to tell you that you are wrong.

But your arguements against religion are good.

I wish you luck and never back down from your beliefs. Never let someone sway you away from your own logic. Never follow anyone blindly. Find your own path and you will find the right one.

AND BTW For all those people up there saying "Atheism is not a religion" you are correct, but she said RELIGIOUS BELIEFS, not religion. Religious beliefs are ideas about religion itself, not a person's religion.

Atheism isn't a religion...but that's just a technical point. I have to say, I am very impressed if you were able to reach these thoughts on your own at only 13. I don't have any answers for your christian question, as I am also an atheist. Just wanted to congratulate you on being able to think for yourself at such a young age...it took me many years to reach the same thoughts on how religion developed that you have already.

The bible is like a handbook, like a manual on how to live a better life. I would also like to say, don't make a decision or claim to be anythung until you have done enough research. I would be sad if you totally rejected God and possibly ruin you chance of going to heaven because you didnt take the time to learn and accept him! good luck!!

God would accept any good people? This is not biblical. Where do you get that idea? God has a standard and it's not "being good".

What do I think? I think you need to read the entire Bible before you say anything about it. I suggest the New King James. :)
