Could she be scared or is just not listening to me because I am her daughter? She has serious headaches, she always says she feels like she's about to pass out, fluid in her knees, basically, she sounds like a woman who needs to go to the doctor. She hasn't had a checkup and YEARS. I also complain about certain problems and she claims she will take me to the doctor, but she does not. I don't know if she is scared or just not listening to me because I'm her daughter.

Ask her if she would want you to go to the doctor if you were experiencing health problems and bad headaches. Of course she will say yes because she cares about your health. Then tell her that's how you feel about her. Explain that you love her and are worried about her.

I think the ER doctors meant return to your regular doctor once you are done with the medication, so that they can check to make sure the infection is gone. Tell your mom if she wants Grand kids she better get you in for a follow up appointment. If she still won't take you in call the doctors office and explain to the nurse what is going on. Maybe they can explain things to your mom.

I think your mother has a fear of doctors. It's fairly normal, but more in men from my experience. All it takes is one bad visit and you'll never want to go back. I'm the same way. I almost let myself die once before I went to the doctor! Hate them!

If you aren't old enough to take yourself to the doctor, are you able to ask your father? Or maybe a grandmother, aunt, anyone close to your mom. They might be able to help you.

Sounds like she's scared & not listening to her body/pain telling her that she needs to go to the doctor... she could have an anurism in her head (deadly serious) for all she knows!
Make her listen to you... make her more scared of not going, than going... keep on scaring her into going!
I know it sounds cruel to scare her, but you may just be saving her life by scaring her into going.

its sad when we feel helpless to help the ones we love but you may be able to change her mind. dont make remarks to how bad the symptoms appear in a way that can be scary or shameful. Tell her how much you love her - how you are becoming concerned about her health and that you will help make the arrangements and best accompany her - give her dignity dont take her - accompany her. Tell her that its been taking a toll on you as her daughter to see her detiorating and she does not deserve to punish herself for not seeking treatment. She may be depressed too - it happens.

You're right, she does have some serious problems and probably needs medication of some kind. At least for her head. Maybe if you both went at the same time that would help.

Bad headaches should always be investigated. Could be something simple like not enuf sleep or diet, but it could also be a tumor, stroke, etc. Check out a medical info site, mayoclinic.com is good, and see if she will look at it too.

She is probably scared. But sometimes people need to be harsh just to get some to listen.

Tell her to stop being selfish by not taking care of herself. You love her and want to know what is going on with. Even if she doesn't want to know, you do. Tell her to do it for you.

it's a bit of both... if you're able to go to the doctor on your own do so.
Ask your mom if she's afraid of dying...
and then ask her if she's trying to make you an orphan
