I recite a short prayer then I distract myself by watching a movie, reading the inflight magazines and newspapers and / or sleeping. :)

Well, I have panic attacks on airplanes, so I get nice and Valiumed up ahead of time, and when I get on the plane I drink until I feel calm. If I still feel scared, and I have a travel companion, I grab their arm and cry and say that we're all going to die. Usually that's while we're landing. I hate landing.
Honestly though, if you have a real problem with flying, go to your doctor a few weeks before you get on the plane, explain your situation, and ask to be prescribed some Valium. One for going up, and if the flight is more than 5 hours, another for going down. Don't forget more for the return trip! It calms me down soooo much, and if you fly infrequently (as I do, maybe once or twice a year) you're not going to get addicted.

Next time take the train or drive. Fear of flying is a pretty common phobia. The easy way around this problem is, just don't fly.
