There won't be any picture. I believe that the law requiring conversion to digital TV in 2009 also provided a subsidy for low cost converters. These are not yet available, but are expected to be in the $50 range. Since it is still a few years away, it is a little soon to worry about. By that time there may be many used HDTV receivers available on e-bay.

The picture will scramble and then it will display just a blank screen. probably not good for it although i've done it by accident before with my 360.

as was said before, the picture scrambles, but you can purchase a HD receiver (set-top box) which plugs in through your AV inputs on your TV. my TV supports it fine and its almost 5 years old
