i just had mine out last month...do not use a straw because it can cause dry sockets which will lead to extra bleeding. take the medication and ask for more if you need it, i had to go through three bottles of pain medication. sleep all you can. set your alarm to take medication in the middle of the night as well so you dont wake up in the morning in a lot of pain. after about a week if youre still in pain switch out your pain medication with something lighter like IB profouin to help get yourself away from needing the pain medication. eat soups and applesauce and anything soft, dont eat solid foods (i tried and it was just a bad idea). get a syringe from your dentist so you can clean out the holes every time you eat. use a saltwater mixture to rinse your mouth out EVERY time you eat. after a few days you may start to get a really nasty taste in your mouth, i mean really nasty, where fluids are coming out of the holes, just put some gauze on them for a while to help prevent it. use icepacks around your jawline for the first couple of days every hour or so (make sure theyre wrapped in a towl or something) and any time after that when they start to hurt or your face starts to swell. either way, good luck with everything, i was so scared to go in and get mine out but i think i turned out ok. if you have any questions in the next couple of days feel free to email me and ill be more than happy to help!

If you don't have live in help prepare in advance. Take the meds they work. Puddings, Ice cream,Italian ice is your best best bet for the first day or two... if it melts or is thick liquid it will be good. When you need more sustenance after like day two the microwave cream cup of soups are great and applesauce... graduate up to puree your stews and other liquid based things by the beginning of the 2nd week then you can also add things like soft egg, cream of wheat, creamy instant mash potatoes & gravy or mashed up sweet potato, really anything you dont have to chew to swallow. Just had all 4 mine out last month along with the 2 right next to the top wisdom teeth that were damaged by those impacted ones growing horizontal

DO NOT SMOKE POST OP!!
Dry socket is the absolute worst pain EVER! I would have let them cut out my gall bladder the old fashioned way with the huge gash across my abdomen 100 times over if I didn't have to feel the pain of Dry Socket!!!
Other than that...the first day or two just kinda lay back and take it easy, be kind to yourself. Eat a lot of soft foods like mashed potatoes and puddings for the first couple of days. Save the steak for about two weeks post op!
GOOD LUCK!! I'm sure you'll be fine!

Hey Vince I just had mine out 2 days ago... I was not given any information from my dentist at all so am just going off what I have seen on this forum. You need to be really careful not to use a straw as this might pull away the blood clots that are aiding in the healing process and expose raw bone which can be really painful. Also do not smoke, and be careful when you eat to stay away from the wound area. Keep it clean, gently rinse mouth after 24 hours with warm salty water every few hours and after eating to keep it clean. Good luck.

Ask for some good pain medicine! I'm not kidding. I had all four removed. And for God's sake, don't drink out of a straw for about 3 days. You can get what's called a "dry socket". It's when you pull the little clot out from the tooth hole. And it hurts really really bad! Your dentist should pretty much go over all that. Good luck!

No. The bleeding is good! Blood clots! Don't worry, even if you do get a dry socket, it's bad but not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. You'll know because the pain meds won't even touch the pain. That's when you run into your dentists office and he packs the hole with medicine. That's all they do. I'd had one.

i just had mine out and the only thing i did was eat soft foods the first day (good excuse to eat as much ice cream you want!) and i kept a moist piece of gauze in the sockets. DON"T drink through a straw until they are healed. don't worry, it's not as bad as you think. you may have some pain, i only took my pain meds for one day and then i was fine.
