I cant see NanoSciencien being a Vial field of study in the Navy. For you to be both I'd say "NO". All your questions are along the same lines as this one. I don't know how much a Nano makes. Nor do I give a Nano.
Listed below is the pay scale for the Military as of 1 January 2006.
You do not join the Navy just for the SEAL program. You enlist for a rate related to that sought in the SEAL program. Lets Make it easy say a GM (Gunners Mate) You go to boot camp, during your in-process you are given a speech and shown a movie about buds. They will ask if anyone is interested in trying to meet the prequalifications. Those that do wish to try will have to meet with the training officers and do the physical requirements. Those that make it still go through boot camp but are placed in a special company and do other training than normal boot-campers Lots of PRT (Physical Readiness Training). Those that didn't pass the first time are given a second attempt with in the first few weeks to try again. After boot camp BUDs candidates are sent to Coronado to BUDS. Those that Ring out are gone and some will be allowed to attempt again at a later time others wont. Those FEW that make it are then sent to their school(s) for training. You will be attached to a unit and train with others and attend school for you entire military career.
So on the pay scale look at starting out at at an e-2 or e-3 based on your ASVAB scores for boot camp. upon completions of boot camp add a rank. After BUDS add a rank. so base pay is per month 1500.00 to 1600.00. Then there are added pay scales for Location, living quarters, and special pay for for Hazardous duty, tax exempt for tours over seas, combat pay, and there are a few other very select payments for job related personnel.
To be the Honest person Go NANO because you have a better chance of being hit by lighting than being a SEAL Hurrah.
