Here we go again...... why do the Christians always seem to ask this question?

We did not evolve from apes. Humans and Apes share a recent common ancestor. Apes have evolved in much the same way that we have.

My God, this question gets repeated so many times. If you ever get serious about wanting to know the answer, you need only take a few courses in biology or do your own research on the process of evolution. All apes, including man, evolved from a common ancestor. All apes, including man evolved differently, depending on their environment and what was necessary for them to survive. Current day apes are the branches that survived and flourished whereas other branches became extinct.

Every time I see this question, I consider that I might be wrong.

We may indeed still be apes.

From what I understand (I took an Evolutionary Psychology class in college) apes and humans share a common ancestor. Humans aren't apes and apes aren't humans. Apes cannot evolve any further because they lack the environmental pressures that existed in primitive times. Its because of natural selection and regulatory genes that caused a divergence and made the common ancestor split. I am not claiming to be an expert in this field as the class that I took was only one semester long, but I gave it my best shot.

heres a theory. Usually when a species evolves, the old species dies of because of the genetic defect. Somehow nature destroys them or the new species kills them off. In some manner, the new evolved species remains. Maybe when humans evolved from apes, humans were shunned from the colony. Man developed their own tribe and apes remained.

Evolution is an ongoing process. It is about change and adaptation. It does not have an end purpose or a hierarchy. Humans are not the end of evolution or the perfection of evolution. We are merely an adaptation in a never ending process.

Because evolution isn't driven by a desire to "enjoy the nicer things in life".

They are evolving into better apes.

P.S. We're apes too. Also, we're terrestrial lungfish. And multicellular amoebas

Yahoo Answers really is not the place to keep having these religion/atheist/evolution discussions. Believe what you want to believe, you should need others confirming your beliefs in order to put value to your beliefs.

I do not disagree with you (infact I agree) but many evolutionists bring the same question that "If God created Adam and Eve from dirt, why is there still dirt?"

Maybe they don't want to. Why would they want to evolve just to have to work all day and pay bills? Seriously, they have it made.
