Doot-y free is a gyp! It's not worth it- you'll find better prices for your goods elsewhere.
It's just stuff you get tax free- but when you make a purchase you MUST show proof of outbound travel (air or sea), and I think you cannot open the special packaging til you arrive in the new place. So you cannot use them. There are limits (finanial and material) as to what you can have- check your county's customs website for details.

Duty-free shops (or stores) are retail outlets that do not apply local or national taxes and duties. They are often found in the customs zones of international airports, ports or other international means of transport.
These outlets were abolished for travel within the European Union (EU) in 1999 but are retained for travellers whose final destination is outside the EU. Some special member state territories such as Åland and the Canary Islands, however, are within the EU but outside the EU tax union, and thus still continue duty-free sales.
Duty-free shops are also a mainstay in the Akihabara electronic shopping district of Tokyo

Dubai is the best place (Dubai Duty Free). They have the llargest and the best under the sun. Besides there is annual (or bi-annual, i am not sure) Dubai Festival around June every year. Watch out for this and plan to go there with your family. Its a real treat I have heard. All the best!

The shops which provides "Foriegn goods" in a particular country at a relatively lower price than the normal market price are DUTY-Free shops.
Sometimes they are also called "Custom-free shops".
These shops enjoy this position due to recieving of waiver on Customs duty (a type of tax) which is payable on goods coming in from other countries.
These shops are mainly located at Airports, Tourist places, or Major cities of the world.

Basically, you are buying goods without paying the 'duties' or 'taxes' on the product. I have found that I can buy the same bottle of liquor cheaper and still be money ahead after I pay the tax than to fight with the nonsense of the duty free shops...

"Duty free" means items purchased at a relatively low price (usually purchased internationally) without paying the high taxes charged in the good old USA!

You have to pay taxes on many items in foreign airports upon importing them to your destination.
I was able to buy a nice pack of cuban cigars legally in Moscow and import them legally to the United States-
(Cuban Cigars are illegal in the United States, but since Russia trades with Cuba, I was able to purchase them legally and import them!)
