Heres how i see it. God doesn't have an image. Ask any devoted christian/catholic/Judist what God looks like, and they wont have an answer. He doesn't have a physical image, so perhaps they meant this figuratively. God is an all mighty creator. We are alike him, we create, we are becoming ever more powerful, and we are learning more and more.

It's a little vague.
It could just mean no more than that the Judeo-Christian god was capable of walking on two legs and had two arms.... that would cover most monkeys, primates and people.

well...who's to say that we're talking about physical appearance? I tend to think that the whole "made in his image" reference is that humans have consciousness/ awareness/ free-will to contemplate our own existence that makes us *slightly* different than the average ape or other animal on the planet...
