Why is it that no one (in particular, Christians) on here seems to know that the U.S. government was NOT founded on religious principles. Are they all really THAT stupid? Or did they just never pay attention in school? I offer up three quotes that were answers to another question on here:

"Return to the Christian roots and morals that started this country(U.S.). "

"our country was based on Christians principals. it was great while it lasted."

"Some one has brought us this far...and i dont think it was the athiest thoughts."

GO READ A U.S. HISTORY BOOK!!!

Glad someone said it. Far too many people haven't read the Treaty of Peace and Friendship, "...the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion..."

But it's because of religious ignorance. Christians, most commonly, like to call America a Christian nation so that they can use it as justification for forcing Christianity on others. Of course, they forget that America was also founded on slavery, and I'm pretty sure most of them don't advocate slavery.

You are right AND wrong. Everyone should read a few history books. However, you might want to do a little research of your own because, the average history book leaves a lot out.

I know what you are thinking. Here we go again. Right? LOL
When I was in school, I thought history is history. Then I heard things and did some study on my own. May I suggest you START with an in-depth study of ALL those who signed the Declaration of Independence.

They believe what they want to believe. While there were some who came to the Americas to escape religious persecution, most came for the opportunity unclaimed open land affords.

Christians in America today don't seem to realize just how far apart their belief-system is with the Christians in colonial America they love to point to as an indication the U.S. was founded on Christian values.

Amazing how distorted history can get over just 200 years.

Everyone who took an eighth grade history/social studies class, and was actually paying attention, knows that the 13 colonies were started because the people who came over to the US were escaping religious persecution. And no, we're not THAT stupid.

I believe that that the US wasn't founded on Christian values also. I believe it is a great cover up to get to the real agenda of a new world order and a conspiracy that will lead to the end of times. Sounds crazy and psycho, but I believe it is true. We are all being duped for a greater agenda. But that is the way God wants it to be.

our ancestors came from other countries seeking religious freedom.

Why is it that no one knows ... ?

............."You" and if you busy yourself with you rather than with others, and with lots of hard work and much time and with some help of extraordinary ordinary people... you will come to know you... and then a smile will come to you... like dang... all the this time... I am... and you will come not to reject you as that is the only person that can reject you, for others do not know you.
